Default Trauma to RSD leg

One of my sheep ran into my RDS leg right below the knee this afternoon. She's maybe 100 lbs and hit me pretty hard with her head. This whole leg is very edematous anyway normally so that may have cushioned the blow some but there's a bruise forming that's four or five inches long and I'm feeling some bone pain. I'm pretty sure it's not broken though. I can walk on it. So I put a 5% lidocaine patch on it and have it wrapped with some of the gazillion dollars worth of bandages I brought back when they all thought I had lymphedema. I take 1000 mg of time release Vitamin C daily along with multiple other supplements daily.

Can anybody think of anything else I can do or am I pretty much covered? I get ketamine in 10 days BTW.

Elevate it?
Cool compress? - since ice is usually a no no for RSD/CRPS..

It could have a hairline fracture, so be very careful and keep an eye on it.
A x ray might be wise , just to check it..

Thanks. It's elevated but I just can't stand to put cold on it. I am a little worried about a hairline fracture. I have osteoporosis in that leg. I figure I'll know more tomorrow. It won't change anything if I wait. It's probably fine. Truth be told I've been really lucky so far because I hurt myself all the time. I'm clumsy, have balance issues and do stupid things :/ Hope my luck holds out.

Hopefully you will be lucky! In March I suddenly felt intense pain in my RSD heel, it was so horrific I could not walk. It took the medicos until May to X-ray me, which revealed that I had RSD. The osteoporosis was so bad one of the doctors said I could have had multiple fractures, but there was no way he could see them due to the osteoporosis.

So far today I'm feeling a lot of bone pain when I walk on it. I think I'll wait until the first of the week and have it X-rayed to rule out a hairline fracture. It'll be a good excuse to see if the osteoporosis is as bad as I fear. I had bisphosphonate infusions May of '14. My rheumatologist will do them once a year if I don't develop long term complications. It's similar to this new study they're doing just with a different bisphosphonate. It helped me before.

When my ankle broke I could still walk on it. He guessed it was not broken but badly sprained. He then had me walk to and fromthe xray room. The xray confirmed the fracture. Please have it checked as soon as you can.

Heart

Yikes!

It's a day later now. I hope you are more comfortable.

I agree with you, cdwall, and with Enna -- since you are concerned about a fracture, I hope you can access x-rays and full evaluation, asap.

if i were you i would see my dr just to make sure you didn't fracture it or break it. maybe get some xrays. i stubbed my toe once and it felt broken but got xrays and it wasn't but it turned dark purple and was swollen and sore and took a few weeks to get better. i think that rsd makes any minor bumps hurt and swell more because i believe it weakens our immune system. i hope that you didn't break it and that you feel better soon. in the meantime just remember that icing rsd parts can damage your nerves further and that you may want to try heat instead. take care.

Hi CD,

Not much I can add. Good to hear you are planning to get checked out. We gotta be careful! Perfect timing on the ketamine. I go again on Monday.

May the force be with us.

Thanks. Good luck for your continued progress

I'm hoping to go back to HBOT the following week as well. That completely reversed a mirror spread to the other foot last time.
