This is my 3rd year in dealing with Crps during the Holidays. I thought I had it handled and knew what to expect from doung things like setting up and fluffing the branches on an artificial tree to gift shopping and wrapping presents.....this year my left hand has been really flared up and I end up dreading activities!! My 10 yr old is still a firm Santa believer and still has that innocence that is not going to last much longer as she grows....
I don't hate Christmas or anything but I just want it all to be over! It's just so m7xh more painful having to do these things and people mistake my dread for Bah Humbuggery! It's been 3yrs and people still don't seem to grasp how much doing what seems to be trivial things cand end up hurting me!! Sigh.......so frustrating! |

I admire you songbird for giving it your all for your children, but I hate that you are suffering because of it. I still cannot do anything for prolonged periods of time. Just getting dressed with make up and jewelry exhausted me yesterday. I cannot sit in one position for too long either, so by the time dinner ended I could barely make it upstairs to climb into bed at 7 without washing my face or brushing my teeth. I just woke up all fuzzy mouthed and achy.
My husband and daughters had to do everything for our family Christmas. ![]() CRPS is a beast. |

hi crpssongbird. i'm so sorry you are having such a bad flare. i admire you for pushing through the pain though in order to make your daughter's Christmas a happy one. if you can take frequent breaks throughout the day, maybe that might help you manage your rsd flares a little better. i hope your rsd flare subsides soon so you can enjoy your Christmas with your child.
(and biobased, i hope your rsd pain subsides a little so that you can enjoy your day too. i can't sit or stand or do anything for long periods of time either. and i also get exhausted just showering, getting dressed and brushing my teeth. i am usually ready for bed soon after i shower. rsd takes all my energy away. it took me all night to wrap five small gifts. my husband doesn't understand why it took me so long. after five years with rsd, you would think he would know by now. i know he tries to understand but i don't think anyone can quite understand the depth of our rsd pain except for others who suffer with rsd. i am slowly coming to accept this even though it can be very frustrating at times.

Songbird,
It's difficult when the holidays seem to just bring more of everything we need to do on an already overwhelmed mind and body. Others just want us to be our former selves, and heck so do we, but it's just not our reality. I hope your 10 year olds joy becomes contagious and can help your holiday be more merry! Wishing you the best~mama mac |

Songbird,
It is amazing that you are able to bring the joy of Christmas and keep the innocence of your 10 year old's belief in Santa going strong while struggling with CRPS. Although some of that innocence may fade in the coming years, hopefully some of it stay with your daughter as she grows into a young woman. The belief of the Christmas spirit and memories of the love her parents have given through her childhood is what keeps the true magic of Christmas alive with us all throughout our lives. This is my first Christmas that CRPS has come in the way of enjoying Christmas to it's fullest, but I decided yesterday that I will not let it stop my from being able to enjoy it completely. The Christmas spirit still lives within me after all these years. May you and your family have a truly wonderful Christmas.
