We just recently installed a home therapy pool for our son. The surgery to remove all the hardware in his ankle set him back quite a bit, as it caused the CRPS to flare up badly. He's basically starting over with rehab to regain function. BUT, the good news is that he no longer has grinding pain, with audible popping and creaking, when he turns his foot sideways in either direction. And the stiffness is much less of a problem with all the hardware out, too. So I think long term, he will regain a lot more functioning than he could have with the hardware in.
Now for the pool part... This is a link to the pool that we installed: http://fitmaxipool.com/shop-ipools/ It's basically a quick-set pool with a hot tub type heater. (It does require an electrician to install the heater though.) We researched several companies, and this one had the best reviews for both the product and customer service. It also cost a fraction of the price compared to other companies. They were super helpful to answer all our questions, both before and after the purchase. (And no, I'm not getting compensated for my little review here, I'm just really excited to have this in place for him, and really happy with our experience.) LOL He's been using it for about a week and a half now, and already he feels a decrease in his pain. I think it has to do with circulation improving as he's using it again. We were initially concerned with the potential for moisture problems in the house, so we rented a paint sprayer and painted the unfinished basement ceiling (floor joists) to protect the wood from moisture. But with the pool covered most of the day, and the dehumidifier running when the pool is open, humidity hasn't been a problem at all. I kept the instructions from his pool therapy exercises after the first surgery, so he's just been doing those exercises, and walking a little bit at a time. This has just been the best thing for him. He was having so much difficulty just getting to appointments because simply not elevating his foot made the pain increase quite a bit. The cold air didn't help, either. Anyway, a home therapy pool may not be for everyone, but I wanted to share our experience here because so many on here benefit so much from getting in the pool. I love that he has daily access to it now. ![]() |

This is awesome! What a great resource to have at home and use daily. The pool definitely helps circulation issues. I was fortunate to have access to pools on a regular basis post-op and it made such a difference for me.
I can relate with the inability to keep a foot down for very long. It took what felt like forever for that to improve and it happened very gradually. Post-op swelling with dependency is normal even without CRPS and can take months to resolve. Especially with ankle surgery... I'm so glad to hear the grinding pain is gone and his range is better. That is going to stave off a host of other problems down the road. Keep up the good work! Your son is fortunate to have such great support. He will keep getting better in time. ![]()
