Default Surgery Complications, My body is angry

An update on my dental surgery that took place on Monday. I had surgery for extraction of 2 teeth and restoration on every tooth. I was in surgery for over 4 hours and while under, I was given ketamine to help the CRPS. I woke up in the most excruciating pain i have ever experienced from head to toe. I remember very little but screaming from the pain and then getting another dose of something to try to manage the pain.

I was in the PACU for 7 hours and then it was decided between the dentistry team, medical team and the pain management team that I would be moved to the unit that they do the Ketamine Infusions on. I was already scheduled for a booster March 8th for a 4 day booster and they moved the date up to help management my pain.(which I appreciate)

I ended up in the hospital for 4 days for a dental procedure. I thought I may need to stay overnight but really had no idea how much pain and how my body revolted. I had a lidocaine infusion and a ketamine infusion at the same time. One of the evenings, I threw up the for hours, it was hell. and if I had to choose, I wouldn't have powered through those horrible days of endless pain.

Now I am have been home for a day and still feeling rough. The CRPS is definitely in my mouth and it is on fire, plus the post op pain. I hope the infusion decreased the possibility of more CRPS spreading. I slept most of the day today and have been trying to get myself off of the pain pills so I can go back on my LDN...today just doesn't seem that likely though.

I'm writing this post because I am so exhausted and just needed a little extra support. This disease feels like it is killing me. This year didn't start off well and I can't try to push optimism where it doesn't belong. I am worried and scared that this disease just isn't done with me yet and I may have on going hospitalizations happening this year. I''m losing pieces of me. my independence and my health. I didn't picture my life like this at 35

I hope everyone had a bright week!

I can relate. I was in excruciating pain for 17 straight unforgettable hours after they surgically implanted my Spinal Cord Stimulator for the trail period. I begged God that day that he would just take me home quickly by ending my life. I pray for a restful night for you and that your post op pain eases over the night and greatly subsides. This disease is a Monster, but you are fantastic. Peace and rest, I hope for you this night. God be with you.

I wish I had some amazing words of wisdom or that all our love and support would take your pain away.

Since neither is possible at the moment (I keep hoping it will someday), I wish you as peaceful and restful night as possible.
Gentle hugs

Heart

I am so sorry to hear about the pain and difficulty with your procedure. You must be absolutely exhausted after all that. I can only hope that being home and getting further out from it will bring improvement.

Go easy on yourself and try to stay well nourished. I know this is a challenge after extractions and with that kind of pain but it is so important for healing and recovery. Besides smoothies, greek yogurt is good, scrambled eggs or omlettes, power pancakes made with oatmeal, yogurt and egg white, smooshy beans, avocado, etc. Take in what you can and keep up your strength. We are all rooting for you to feel better soon.

Sending loads of healing love and Valentine's hugs,

Default Thank you!

Thank you all for your kind messages. I seem to be feeling worse instead of better since yesterday. I pushed myself too much this morning trying to stock up on groceries for a snow/ice storm we have coming through tonight. Usually my boyfriend is here to help out with 90% of everything but he is traveling right now.

I am feeling more weak and think it could be from the anesthesia and stress of the surgery. My pain seems about the same and still haven't stopped the Vicodin but I am only taking 2 a day. I will try again tomorrow to only go with over the counter so I can get back on the LDN.

Crossing my fingers for snow day tomorrow. I'd like to keep some of my sick days.

Let it snow! It sounds like you need more time to heal. I hate dental work, and I've has a lot, but nothing like your describing. SOUNDS AWFUL! I hope tomorrow is a better day. Take care ~mac

Default Update 6 weeks

After using searches on this site- I thought I'd update my post about the last month. I like for those Reading for their own search and education to see all the pieces of the puzzle so here goes:
I was in horrific pain for about a month after my surgery. My dr put me on dialuadid and I didn't fight it. I was unable to eat and my face felt like someone had punched me. Even my teeth burned. I was able to get another booster ketamine for 3 days which took pain down to a 0 but shot back up once I was released. Ketamine took 2 more weeks to settle and I was able to begin my LDN after this last booster. My pain still isn't to the baseline it was before this surgery but it is less angry. My CRPS seems to attack everything that is weak or broken in my body.
Although this was a horrible experience I think my team made the right call for surgery-ketamine during and 2 more Boosters. Everyone who is looking at surgery options just make sure your PM dr is on board and ask for ketamine during the procedure. This Keeps the nerves less reactive.
Hope your surgeries go well 😊
