I can totally relate with the "omg, I'm so embarrassed". We have a dog walker that takes my dogs out when my husband is working and I am always worried she is going to think my house is a mess. I can't vacuum because the vibrations hurt my feet but a few times this winter I had no choice. No matter how careful people are rock salt would find its way into the house and stepping on that can be so painful.

Even though it's not a social visit I'm sure the extra help will be nice.
