I encountered this article recently and have been meaning to put it up for those members here who have children with CRPS. It is from 2010, so not super recent but comes from Dr. Stanton-Hicks of Cleveland Clinic who has done a lot of research.
The jist of it? After literature review of numerous studies they estimate 97% percent of children are able to achieve a remission with treatment! They also note their findings of spread in adults as 10%. What great news. I think it important that we all remember that CRPS is a spectrum and it may well be that resistant cases end up here. I do love seeing optimistic findings. http://rsds.org/wp-content/uploads/2...ed_Aug2010.pdf

Kids are amazing! I have seen children suffer horrible severe injuries that bounce back to normal or very close to it. Kids are also really good at adapting to a variety of situations.
Now all we need to do is find a way to bottle this up and share it with the rest of us! |

Wow, great article. And yes, it is nice to see some good news for a change.
And citing a 10% chance of spread in adults. I sure hope they are right! The last article I read, although a bit dated, cited a 78% chance of spread in adults. |

Kris - kids are indeed amazing but then again adults are too!
Birchlake - I also really liked the 10%. If put in context of the statistic I have seen from more than one reputable source that 80% of CRPS patients have improvement over time, then it makes sense. Only 20% of cases are either staying the same or getting worse. I assume that not all of those people are getting spread.
