Hi, I am new here. I have never posted any questions or concerns before, this is my first time. I have a very long medical history. March 2005 I fell at work causing a severe ankle sprain, along with crushing my foot. Sixteen months later I had neuroma surgery on my right foot. Then when I went to physical therapy where the therapist put a piece of ice on the bottom of my foot. I jerked my foot away, it felt like fire!! Since then 2 more surgeries, and a whole lot of pain that is unpredictable.
What I am experincing now is profuse sweating. I can be doing nothing, sitting in my chair and I feel like I just got out of the shower. Soaking wet, I lean forward in my chair or where ever I am. Pull my hair up, place my hands on top of my head and wait for it to stop. I've read about the thermal regulator being part of the autonomic nervous system that is getting incorrect information (dysfunctional). Does anyone else experience this as part of CRPS? |

Clynne welcome!
You are not alone. My body feels as if there are multiple heat/cooling zones since CRPS. I literally can be shivering from the waist down with feet like blocks of ice, while at the same time be sweating buckets from the waist up. I wasn't a sweaty or stinky person in the past, I never had a hot flash during menopause either. The sweating issue is so awful I bought a specially formulated persimmon soap to wash the upper areas of my body with to deal with the smell. I also noticed that synthetic clothing exacerbates the situation. |

Count me in. This has to be the first winter that I didn't wear a sweater. Tshirts the whole time. I feel like I "run warm" and then will just sweat for little or no reason. And night sweats too (though that could be peri-menopause).

Becca-
Yes to the night sweats, too. If my bed is too cold when I climb in I start to shiver with a COLD sweat. The hot sweats come later in the night. What makes this difficult is I don't have the stamina to bath every day, which is why I resorted to getting the persimmon soap-anyone interested please take note you don't need much to do an effective job and it can dessicate your skin. |

Thanks for sharing. Do any of you notice if the sweats get worse as the pain increases? I have also realized that I need to check the temperature outside because it can be cold but I don't feel the chill normally. Also my body doesn't take the heat, it can be 80 degrees but it feels like 100 degrees to me, my face is red and I feel like I just stepped out of the shower. So uncomfortable!

My husband says you can tell I'm having a flare because my face gets red and I get sweaty. So I know exactly what you are talking about. I actually took my temperature because I was convinced I had a fever!

You are not alone Clynne, I have had CRPS since 2008, it's full body now and before CRPS I never got sweats, now I do all the time, mostly at night though. And it can't be due to menopause b/c I am in my early 30s. I will sometimes wake up every hour drenched and have to change clothes.
In addition, in the winter I no longer wear winter clothes. I use to run very cold before CRPS and love 90 degree weather, now I wish it was 50 degrees all the time! |

I also sweat profusely and I used to actually regularly get heat stroke because my body failed to sweat properly, so it's been quite a change. The feeling hot can come out of no where. I can be sitting in my chair for hours and not change anything and then, bam, I'm way too hot and have to strip to cool off. But I also have cold flashes as well aND can experience both at the same time. My body also has a delayed reaction to real temperature change and thenjoy over reacts. So like on humid days, I'll go outside and be like, it's beautiful out because my body hasn't adjusted to the temp. But then 15 minutes later I feel like I'm being burned alive as my body adjusts to the heat and humidity and then way overreacts. I'll sweat for a good 15 to 30 minutes after I go into a cool environment, and when I say sweat, I mean have water pour off me. I carry around these cooling wipes that help cool me down aND dry me off. Living in a city where I have to walk places, these have become a life saver. I'm so embarrassed sitting on the bus dripping all over!

Hi fellow CRPS warriors! I am so sorry to see so many of us here but am darn sure glad I found you.
I experience the same thing, hot sweats upper body and cold as ice feet and toes. I am in the process of CRPS spread from left arm, hand and shoulder to both feet and right hand, arm, shoulder, bladder and chest/ back. I see a new pain management MD for injections Monday, with padiatry, neuro and cardiac consults to follow. Primary wants to ensure we rule out any other pathology missed. CRPS is a diagnosis of exclusion as I am sure you all know. Long story short: 2003 CRPS from left arm crushing injury with compartment syndrom. Hit and run car accident. CRPS well managed with no work related restrictions until minor left arm pull from catching luggage while traveling for work. I have been unable to work since March 2015. Because we perspire so much, be careful to replace fluids frequently throughout the day. I have had headaches from dehydration. Do any of you also have blood pressure fluctuations, as this symptom is more recent and vertigo with loose of concisness. This has happened twice in past 12 weeks Hope to participate more in this forum, as previously i selfishly read every post because of all the great info on this site Rain |
