Today I go to the IME for work comp (the appointment that bumped my follow up appointment with my dr). Wish me luck!

Good Luck...
I found out years later that my IME doc's report was slanted, & also had his opinion that I was malingering, so to speak... (mine was for repetitive strain injuries). WC is the one paying the IME dr, so they may bias the report for WC.. Ask for a copy of the report so you can read what is reported..and fix/address any errors. Your atty should be addressing any errors/misstatements you find.. I hope you have read that IME may try to trick you or even touch/grab you in injured areas even if you request they don't.. Of course they will say they need to examine you.... If anything questionable happens , go to your dr and let them assess and clearly report new findings, elevated pain etc.. relating to the IME ...has to be on record that it happened and the timing. I hope your atty has already told you this... Mine didn't, I learned it after the fact reading on the forums here & others..about IME/WC etc.. Chronic pain and the cause is often hard to prove unless there is a clear timeline relating to the WC injury.. best of luck to you..

I pray the IME goes well. You are well prepared and know the MD performing the evaluation is paid by the WC insurance co and therefore bias. I would never have believed this but experienced it during my IME. It caused a flare that lasted for over two weeks.
Please let us know how it went. Sending positive energy your way. Rain |

Thank you everyone. It was a rough appointment...always is because I am so sensitive to touch on my arms and left leg. The disappointing thing though was that this was the same doctor I saw last time for my IME several years ago when it was the injury that resulted in the RSD and the spread of the RSD to my upper body. At the time I couldn't walk or stand at all and was in the wheel chair. This doctor today told me that he was so worried about me when he saw me last time that he called the work comp attorney and told them that I was in need of immediate medical care because there was something seriously wrong with me. He said he told them to contact my attorney and let them know that I needed immediate medical attention. That was not in the report and I never heard anything about it (other than that he said at that previous appointment that he was going to call the work comp attorney and then came back 30 mins later and just told us we could leave). Since it wasn't in the report...I assumed it was just BS at the time...but it was very odd that he would mention that at THIS appointment if it hadn't really happened. The whole thing was very strange and I couldn't help but think that if that had all really happened and if something had happened to me or the seratonin syndrome had caused serious damage that they would some how be liable for something if it ever got out that they had that conversation. I cannot believe that if a doctor thought a person was in IMMEDIATE need for medical attention that they would let you walk out of their office without doing something more than calling a work comp attorney to tell them.
Anyway..the rest of the appointment and exam was fairly normal. I asked him what his thoughts were and he said that he wanted to see the results from the MRI first. I didn't really expect him to answer that question...but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask. I had hoped that maybe this doctor would have the MRI results before I got there...but not surprised that he didn't. So I'm home now and resting. Thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts and for your words of assistance and support. |

Hi Catra,
I hope you are able to rest comfortably and are enjoying some peace. I imagine you are still awaiting more information from your IME. IMEs tend to raise anxiety levels for all of us. (Jo*Mar has offered some excellent insights!) Quite a story! I have seen/heard so many odd accounts of what goes on in so many aspects of medicine (in general), not to mention IMEs. Too much of what goes on seems very remiss, sadly. I haven't been around in awhile; I am just catching up with your history. I am reading here tonight and wanted to respond to your post. I hope you obtain the IME results most helpful to you, and soon. Will be watching for your update. Thanks again for sharing your experiences. Love All Around, DejaVu
