Default Trip to ER last night by Ambulance,

Around 6 last night I started vomiting and couldn't stop. They think I got sick on some fish I had ate. I had just bought it yesterday and the grocery store.

Susan and Travis came over and since I couldn't quit throwing up long enough to get to the vehicle they decided to call an ambulance. I was in the hospital until midnight last night. They gave me Phenergan for the vomiting but it still wouldn't let up.

The let me out of the hospital around 11:30 and I threw up all the way home in the vehicle. I finally went to sleep around 3 this morning.

This fish I bought comes in individual packages. I bought 10 of them because I keep it around for my diet. Now I don't know what to do about it. I don't know wheather to take it back and tell them about it or throw it away.

I can't prove it's what did it but it's the only thing I ate yesterday at all.

My voice is gone today from where I made my throat raw.

That hospital was horrible. It was like ice in the room I was in. I was so ****** at them, they wanted to keep me longer and I made them let me go because of that room. Susan and Travis were satting there freezing with me. They gave me one blanket. I have no ideal why they would have kept those rooms that cold. It has to be 30 degrees in there.

I feel better this morning but still fill a little out of it. I drank some coffee and started feeling sick so I quit that for the day.

To top it all of, I hurt my middle finger on my right hand. I don't know how. Dustin thinks it's broke but I don't think so. I have a Drs. appt. at 3 today but I think I'm going to cancel it and just wait until Monday to see my PCP when he gets back in town. I don't know what they can do for it anyway.

I called my nurse yesterday, I was going to run over to her house yesterday evening and let her look at it and see if she thought I should go in today but I ended up in the ER.

I don't know if I will ever eat fish again.

If the fish cost quite a bit I'd take them back and say you are afraid to eat any of them after getting so sick.
they may or may not be bad but I wouldn't risk it.

But if that was the only thing you ate all day that might have been part of the problem..or did you have any sauces or tartar sauce with it that might have been bad?

you might need to nibble on crackers or toast, applesauce, sip some soda pop or have plain rice til your tummy gets settled.

oh ada! i'm so sorry for you! i would call the grocery store where you got the fish and let them know what happened and that you ended up in the ER. they should refund ALL your money. did the ER doc say anything? did they say it was food poisoning?

i would try to get to the dr. today just so that they can make sure you are ok and they can also look at your finger. if you are feeling much better after noon, then you might reconsider. just a suggestion.

i hope everything gets resolved soon.....!!!!!

awww ada...i hope you are feeling better. i have had food poisoning before. it can take a few days to get out of your system.

was the fish frozen or raw that you bought? most of the frozen is flash frozen close to where it is caught. the thawed stuff at the grocery store..is just that..frozen then thawed. kinda scarey wondering how long it's been there.

but take whatever you didn't eat bck to the store. hopefully they will pull any other like it they hadn't sold. but for sure...get your money back.

kinda sad, bu most hospitals won't do tests on the food vomited, unless they think it might be w ide spread thing.

You will have no trouble getting your money back, but more then
anything you should report it to store mananger. Tell him that was
all you had to eat and he should have the fish looked at,because your
sure he wouldn't want anyone else to go through what you did.
And if you contiue to remain ill you would have to report it to the
board of health. I got sick like that on fish last year and called the
board of health, and was told this can happen with fish and they
had it pulled out the store. It took awhile before i could eat it again.
What might not bother the average person, can make the eldery or
folks who have medical problems seriously ill. Stores don't check
shelve dates,or if frozzen many times it gets unfrozzen at the store
then refrozen. My heart goes out to you that's alfull, and the ER should
of offered warm blankets, you were probaly were dehydrated. gezzz.

Ada, Gosh when it rains, it POURS!! Hope you are feelong better.

Sue has brought up some real good points: Report it IMMEDIATELY to the store manager. Before you return the boxes to the store, write down (or have one of your kids) photocopy the boxes so that it shows the brand AND THE LOT NUMBERS, and make a photocpopy of the store receipt for your records.

If you still are feeling sick, go to your Doctor. He might be able to do tests and stool samples to determine WHAT bacterias are in your system. Some are VERY SPECIFIC to food poisoning. Plus, as Use pointed out, dehydration is a concern, especially amongst older individuals and/or people with chronic medical problems. Nothin' to fool around with!!!

And YES, by all means report this incident to the Health Department, so that they can do an apporpriate investigation.

If it is shown that the fish caused your illness (food poisoning), then the store and/or manufacturer might have to reimburse your medical costs, etc.

Geeeze, I hope no one ELSE who bought that fish had to go through this!

Best Wishes,

The other Brokenwings

Hugs. So sorry you are going through this. If you can't return the rest of the fish, have someone else do it for you. They must go back. I think the ER's are always cold because the nurses and doctors have to move around so much that it gets hot for them. However, they don't think of the sick people who are laying in the beds freezing so they can remain comfortable. They should have provided another blanket.

Hugs again. (Soft hugs, I don't want to squeeze you too hard-don't want the consequences)

a local news station here just did a story /investigation on foods being sold in stores after the sell by dates .
although it does say many foods are still fine and safe
{canned/jar/dried etc}

here is the link {this is for the Portland Oregon area - but most stores are similar I'm sure}
