Broken, grooved and irregularly growing finger and toe nails seems to be a symptom of RSD that many share.
Mine were got pretty bad for awhile and then I started putting great effort into "taming" them. They look a lot better but still are grooved. There's no big difference in the growth rate of the different appendages though they all grow pretty fast and in spurts. I'm curious how others' nails are affected. |

Hi,
Although mine have gone through the grooved and brittle stage they have now just seemed to have come to a complete stop with growth. I never cut them, never file them, they just stay the same although the nails on my worst hand are significantly smaller than the better hand. Something else I have noticed is that whereas for years after getting RSD I resembled a monkey with hair growth, I am now quite naked of hair---not so much on my head although it is thinner but my arms and legs look completely hairless. Anyone else noticed this too? Cheers Tayla |

My nails grow very slowly and are constantly breaking off. I have tried everything to get them to grow and they won't. I constanly have to cut the broken ones. I snag everything with them.
I don't have to shave my legs and underarms anymore. Sometimes, I will have a spot of hair here and there but not all over. Ada |

Has anyone tried MSM?
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM, or dimethylsulfone) is an organic sulfur compound ... MSM is also known as dimethylsulfone, or DMSO2 It's supposed to be good for so many things - supposedly no side effects or interactions. I take it at times for my RSI/TOS and also notice then that my hair is smoother, nails grow faster and stronger, mild chronic sinus problems clear up.... I'll post some links about it. http://www.msmguide.com/ http://www.herbshop.com/msm.htm http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/herb...nsad/a/MSM.htm http://www.thenutritionreporter.com/MSM_and_DMSO.html http://www.dazer.com/msm.jsp http://www.evolutionhealth.com/msm-powder3.htm there's more out there too Important: Always consult your family health practitioner before starting, changing or altering your personal health regimen.

Nails are sooooooo messy now. I use to be so proud of fingernails. When I would go in for a manicure they never even asked if I wanted fake nails. Mine were so hard & smooth, they just painted my own. Now they are as described above & the cuticles are thick & brittle too no matter what I do to help them. The nails are also very dry. I also now have a fungus infection in one of my little fingers as well as several of my toe nails. They, toe nails, tend to curve & grow into the sides of my toes too.
Talk about hairless????? Well I never was what you would call 'hairy' to begin with. But now I have NO hair, anywhere. And gals, I mean NO WHERE....if you get my drift. Before RSD the hair on my arms was fine & blonde. My eyebrows use to be pretty thick, but now they are even terribly thin. I have to use powder eye brow color to fill them in. Recently I have noticed that I now have soft blond hair growing on the sides of my face. But elsewhere..nothing......I have brunette hair & olive skin tones so hair should show up on my legs atleast right? Nothing.... Tried MSM when I just had Fibromyalgia & it made me sick. As for side effects, yes there are side effects. Diarehha is one of them............I had it very severe from MSM. DebbyV Last edited by Debby; 08-13-2007 at 05:43 PM. Reason: needed to add stuff |

My nails don't grow very well, they are very thin and groovy. Is it safe to get fake nails because that is what I do to have nice nails? As far as hair goes, I have blonde hair and my arms have blonde hair and now that I have rsd I notice darker patches of hair on my arms. It seems like the hair on my legs and underarms seem to grow faster than they use to. That just stinks because I have to shave every day to be smooth.
