Heart Blocks and flare!

I have to ask this question... So i had a pervious post about blocks... I had my block a week ago tommorrow... I have been in a huge flare for the last week.. Face is swollen arm is swollen as big as a softball... I ended up at the ER last night.. I could not stand the burning pain the senstivity in my face any longer.. Well needless to say the ER was not that helpful...Gave me a shoot of diluadin...(spelled that wrong!)

Has anyone else has this experience after blocks... I had about 4-5 hours of relife and then huge flare up.... I am in a huge amount of extra pain... Pain that typicaly i dont have.... I need to know... please let me know if you have ever had this before?

Thanks pain free days ahead and gental hugs!!!

After my one and only block, it warmed my leg up and the color was "normal" for a couple of hours afterward. Then the next 2 months I was in horrendous pain. A 10? HA! 10 shmen.....we're talking more like 20!

It was the worst time I've been through in the entire time I've had RSD. I couldn't sit, stand or walk. Even lying down was a problem. Needless to say I was hating life. I really, really hope that your flare ends very soon.

*Soft, gentle hugs*

Karen

SOUNDS AS IF YOU ARE ALERGIC TO THE MEDICATION IN THE BLOCK. I WOULD TRY SOME BENADRYL ..... I'M SURPRISED THEY DID NOT GIVE YOU THAT AT THE E.R.
SORRY FOR YOUR MISERY. JOAN

Hello there
Could you go to see or contact the doctor who gave you the block?
I have never found an ER too reliable for treating much regarding RSD unless it is the hospital where your records are and where you have had your pain management treatment.
Diagnosis over the internet is impossible but it is certainly not a normal response to a block. Please contact whoever gave you the block.
Good luck
Tayla

I truly am so sorry this happened to you Jacquelina! I agree with Joan, you could have had an allergic reaction to that block! "Get no more of them"! Does your Dr. that did this to you know??" Also, Joan said she was surprised that they did not give you something for your allergic reaction at the ER! Gezzzzzz..why not?? make sure you look at the so called Dr.I D tag next time could be the janitor!! sorry, just a little chuckle there for ya, Hun!! I hope that you NEVER have to experience this ever, ever again!! crazy.. just plain crazy ER doc's!!! Well, Jacquelina, I hope your feeling lots better and you will for sure be in my prayers!! Love and loads of Love, Desi

Default Been through a similar experience!!!!!

Wildberry,

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me after my last block, however I didn't have any swelling. I had pain relief for about 3 hours then the pain hit with a vengence, I couldn't sit or lay I could only stand or walk I finally went to the ER around 8pm and was seen around 11pm. At this point I had been walking almost nonstop for 6 hours. The ER Doc took one look at me and said you are in alot of pain huh? I was told by the ER Doc that my PM Doc had hit a nerve I was given 2 injections about 10 minutes apart, the first was Dilaudid the second was another pain med not quite as strong, but as usual for this darn RSD I can't remember the name of the second drug.

I agree that with the swelling it seems you may have had both an allergic reaction and your doc hit a nerve.

I suggest you call your PM Doc ASAP and get him or her to see you and let them figure out why you are swollen and still in so much pain. I agree with Tayla it is hard to DX over the computer. You need to be seen!!!!!!

Let us know how you make out.

Default Please read up on abalation.........

Wildberry,

Like I said up at the top read up on abalation, you should consider all the pros and cons. I had it done the only thing it did for me was decrease swelling. Any good Doc will explain that the nerves can and will grow back and not always in a good way. Please consider this seriously. I wouldn't want to be on bed rest to long, your legs, ankles and feet need the movement.

Good luck with what ever you decide, always remember it is your body, your decision what you do with it.

Ooo

Hi,
I am abought to have my 10th nerve block in the back of my head. I dread them. I have a terrible reaction starting a few hours later pain & feeling generally ill the 1st 4days i just lie in bed feeling sorry for myself &
gradually get moving after that, but i`m 2 wks before feeling myself " whatever that is " but i must say the pain is much better for around 4-5 wks afterwards. I always say "No More" but i`m going on a cruise the 26th sept & that is my sole reason for having another block.
My pain consultant says it`s the steroids he`s also injecting that is causing my problem.
This is going to be my last one!!!!
Sophia i try to smile
