Question Muscle Spasm Where??

Hi all. I have to ask. We all have had muscle spasms at least once in our life right? Usually in our feet? And am I right when I say they hurt like H E Double Hockey Sticks? Well my questions is this..

Has anyone ever had a muscle spasm in there hand to where it goes into a almost distorted position. Painful and all. I'm even talking my good side. I had one yesterday. Out of the blue. Lasted for about 40 minutes. Muscles were so constricted my sister could not pull my hand from my wrist or separate my fingers. The pain was out of this world. And as quick as it came it left.

Afterwards my left arm was very weak and hand and fingers were kinda numb and so sore. I give up on trying to figure this all out. I don't even bother to call my Doc anymore because she is impossible to reach on short notice. I wouldn't go near my ER unless I was half dead . I am just curious if anyone might know what's up with this? Thanks so much.

Chin Up!!!! Luv Mark

P.S. My neice is typing this for me. It is to important not to get it all correct!

Default Hi Mark,

I have had them in my right hand. My middle finger, the ring finger and little finger spasm up and get all out of shape. It usually goes pretty quick. Bill use to massage them and I have soaked my hand in a parafin bath to help calm them down.

When mine first started I chalked them up to the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome but I had surgery on my right side in 2000 and for the longest time I never had any. Then about a year and a half ago they started again. Like you now I don't know what to chalk them up to.

I try not to keep my hand in one position for too long such as holding a book one way or holding a fork one way to eat. It seems to me like certain positions bring it on with me.

It will be interesting to see what ideals people give you about this. I have wondered also.

Hope you are having a good day.

Ada

Get these all the time in my hands. I have found that putting pressure from the other hand to put it back in place makes it go away almost immediately. If I don't do something to "untwist" it, it will stay like that for several minutes. Don't want that happening.

Also get horrible leg cramps at night. Sometimes in foot, sometimes in the leg. Have to get up and walk or super extend the cramping muscle and hold in that position for up to 20 minutes.

May be from not enough potassium or the inability to metabolize the potassium I take in.

Good luck with it.

Hugs and Prayers

HI,
i get those ... in many areas of my affected leg, outer and inner upper leg, calf and foot, and they are killers and can hurt for days after. i take tranxene 7.5mg at bedtime and almost never get them during the night anymore. it truly was a life saver. i had gotten where i was afraid to go to bed, with such fear of waking with them, and being unable to break the cramp. i also get them in my hands where i have either RSD or Reynaud's ... doctor have differing opinions there, and i do not care since neither can be cured ... go figure.

Hi Mark,
I have had muscle spasms right from the start of this crazy disease. My foot would curl up so tight and the pain was off the charts. It took forever for my husband and kids to get my foot staightened out. I get them every night. As soon as I take off my shoe and brace, they start. I try to breath through them but that doesn't work. I keep telling the Docs about it but they just act like its nothing. I'd like for them to just get one.

When my hand and arm starts doing what you hand and arm are doing I soak mine in epsom salt and warm water. Most of the time it really helps, when it doesn't I entertain thoughts of chewing it off LOL. You know when animals get caught in traps that is what they try to do to get loose. I pray today finds you in less pain!! And we can read you posts just fine!! so if you have noone around to type for you just jump right in here. I still smile about your smile sliding around you face--YOU ARE THE MAN!!BLESS YOU!!Carose

I have had bi-lateral rib resections for TOS so both arms and hands are affected. I thought the muscle spasms were bad when I just had TOS, RSD brings even more spasms to my hands. Years ago I was sent to the ER by ambulance, and my left arm and hand were completely locked up. The ER Dr thought he could move my arm, but he couldn't make it move one inch. Even gave me a strong sedative to help release it. My hand was curled in a fist and about 5 hours later it started letting go. My hands cramp up every day and it hurts like hell. Whenever I try to cook or use them at all, it does the same thing. I hope yours gets better, not something that a person can take for long periods of time.

I have full body versions of these sorts of spasms. They go from my jaw to my toes. They pull my feet into balls, will twist my fingers up and over the back of my hands or twist in till the nails are in my palms. They pull my thumbs up and over my hands and pull the fist in until it touches the inside of my wrist. They have dislcoated my knee, my shoulder and broken several fingers. They pull my neck down to the side and twist my spine. When they are going it hurts so so much, and even when someone touches me all they can feel is total rock hard. I find that as they kick in they take a life of their own and start twisting in ways which just shouldn't do!

I don't know anything that helps.. I find I just have to sit through them and wait for them to go. If someone tries to pull them out too much then they set the jerks off and I end up twisting more and more whilst shaking.

Hope you find something that helps!! it does suck so much!!

Hi Frogga,
I can't imagine the things you describe. RSD seems to affect all of us differently. I hope you can find some pain relief. I love warm, sunny days in the 70 degree range. I seem to have less pain and spasms. take care.

Hey Stephen

Spasms do suck! I am so jealous you are somewhere warm! I live in South UK and so it's always wet, windy and miserable weather here.. (tonight it sounds like a storm is going through the house, rain etc).. one of my pain drs said the best pain medicine he could prescribe would be to move somewhere warm!

LOL!

I do find some weathers make my pain and spasms worse and sometimes feel like a barometer..
