Default Greetings from Anatevka

What a delight to find this forum! My name is Rivkah and yes, I am really TevyesDaughter. I grew up on a farm, and yes, I am Jewish.
I was DX with RSD/CRPS six months after a work related injury. Workman's Comp is SLOWLY dealing with this, but I do have one question:

Has anyone experienced dental decay and loss of bone mass in the jaw? This has suddenly happened to me and according to my dental x-rays taken just prior to the accident, I had one cavity, now the Dentist is talking about root canals , bridges etc....

Well, that is it for now, thanks for allowing me to join in and I look forward to "meeting" all of you!

Be well,
TevyesDaughter

Hi - welcome to this forum,
My name is Alison, I am 12 years old and I suffer from RSD in my left leg. I used to have RSD in my right arm but it is now fully recovered - thankfully.
I developed RSD in my leg after an ankle sprain in March, I was diagnosed 4 months later. My foot is rotated out to the side and I am unable to move it, due to Dystonia. I also have muscle spasms, swelling, hypersenstivity, colour changes, temperature changes, chronic pain (which is a 9 and a half out of 10), balance problems and many more symptoms. When I was diagnosed my PM doctor performed a Guanethadine nerve block which caused me to lose my balance.
2 months after diagnosis my doctor put me on Amitriptyline to try and help me sleep but this didn't work, it caused me to have a nasty side effect of 'blurred vision' and resulted in a knock to my right arm, I was diagnosed with RSD 2 weeks later.
I do have trouble with my teeth, I find that they chip a lot and they are also quite sensetive.
Take care and if you need anything I'm here
Alison

Helllo Rivkah,

With RSD/CRPS there is often loss of bone density/osteoporosis so this could explain your jaw problems. Teeth do react very quickly to any illness in the body, with RSD and the medications we take this just makes matters worse. Smoking will also cause discoloured, unhealthy teeth.
I had a beautiful white, healthy smile 10 years ago. Now I have discoloured and chipped teeth as do just about most people I have met with RSD/CRPS.
I think taking calcium and fluoride supplements may help and of course good Dental Hygiene will go a long way in keeping our smile dazzling.

Nice to meet you and lots of luck with your teeth, I hope you have a really good and understanding dentist. Mine is since I supplied him with 6 pages of information about RSD.
Love Tayla

Thank you so much, he put me on flouride supplements and a flouride wash. I am looking for a dentist in the NYC / Westchester, NY area that is familiar with RSD and dental issues.
I found an interesting article on the web: http://www.homestead.com/robertgschw...nalDental.html

I am on workman's comp and my Attorney is applying for them to cover the cost of the dental issues.
Thank you so much,
Rivkah

Heart Dentistry

Hi there,
Many thanks for the link it is really interesting. Tell your PM doctor (if you have one) about the dentistry treatment you need and see what he says. Also inform your dentist about RSD.
It is good that you wont have to pay for the treatment.
Tayla is right - RSD does cause bone density so that could be why your teeth keep chipping - talk to your doctor about it, maybe he could arrange a bone scan just to put your mind at rest.
Take care and it is nice to have a different religion on Neurotalk
Thanks
Alison

Dear Alison,
You are such a ray of sunshine. I relate to you in many ways, I had Juvenial RA from the age of 8 through my early adulthood, it really stinks when we are young and get hit with health issues that change our lives so early. I love your attitude, you appear to be quite the cheerleader and show your kindness, compassion to us all.
Thank you again for such a warm welcome!!
Rivkah

Default dentistrt

Hi Rivkah
You may want to check out RSDHope.org They have an article or 2 about dentistry and RSD- You should be careful with the root canals because it can cause the RSD to spread into your mouth- Totally stinks! Hope this is helpful and make sure u use a dentist who knows RSD

Unhappy Hello deb

Rivkah,

Deb you just remind me of something that happened to me... I had to have a root canal on the bottom let side and that is what did cause it to speard in my mouth... just recently moving to the right... You should be very very very careful...

Good luck to you!

Much love and hugs to all J!

Smile Thank you

I am still trying to get names straight around here Thank you for the advise, the wisdom and experiences you have shared.
Regarding the dental issue, I am really concerned about the bone loss in my jaw..I have decided NO ROOT CANALS, they can pull them if that is what is needed, but I just cannot put myself in the position of causing more harm than good.

Ali: I am so excited to hear about the possiblity of home tutoring for you! YEAH!!! I missed two straight years of school when I was in UCLA Medical center as a child, all I can say is when I left there and returned home, my reading level was at a Sophomore/University level, not too bad for a 10 yr old. Now my math and other subjects, well, let's just say, it took me a long time to catch up.
So, I hope they are able to work this out for you, I know you miss your friends and it is difficult trying to maintain those friendships when you are sick and people do not always understand. Keep your chin up.

Fondly,
Rivkah
