Default Very different SGB!!!

Hi friend's. I had my 7th. or is it my 8th. SGB injection. I'm telling you, I don't want to have these anymore. I hear so many of you saying that the eariler caught, the better! I was in denial for so long, took 5 dr.'s and a wrist specialist to say I had RSD. Ok, I was Diag. in April(I had the carpal tunnal surgery Jan.7) So, 3 months latter, I am dx and yet, I still hurt, had all thses blocks. Yes, I did go into remission for 2 weeks and 3 days.MY rsd DID SPREAD FROM THE WRIST(WHERE I HAD THE ct surgery) to my arm, (entire arm, shoulder neck, right ear.(All on right side)Ok.. now, when I got this last SGB.. they take me in to get the procedure. I get twilight sleep. I wake up, my entire arm is numb, I mean numb, where you can't feel nothing. They had to keep me there for 1 and 1/2 hr. because I couldn't raise my arm even an inch. I finally managed to lift the arm, begged them to let me go home and on the way home, I had the worst pain I have ever felt in a long time! I told my husband, I don't think I am going to have these blocks anymore. I am still hurting and I am wearing the fentanyl patch!! I don't know?? I mean can someone please answer me, by what you mean the sooner caught the better. Vic, you keep saying this too, as well as lot's of other people. What should I do.. keep having these every 6-8 weeks??(SGB) I mean, when some of the blocks wear off, it's like so not worth it?? It's sore, aches, burns more!! Ok.. off the soap box. Anyone care to give their oinion if I should still get these. I have had this RSD for only a year.(Caught very early)I want to get them, and then I don't,SGB injections?? .. Oh, guess I am just confussed here?? Well, hope you all stay warm. it is `16 (chill factor here) Could this be why I am having pain, even after the block/s? TIA friends, Love, as usual, ~Desi

Default aww..

Desi Hi..
If they are not working don't have em.
No one procedure works for everyone and blocks usualy only work for so long, the time frame we stress so much is so that you can at least get some treatment started early.. problem is we are all so diffrent as to what works and what dosnt, though my blocks stopped working I know they helped some.. but as I say if its makin you worse don't do it.

It is also a fact that invasive procedures are a risky thing for us I have learned to just say no.

hugs hon,
Sandra

I have had only 2 SGB
I had them 2 days apart, the first one no real relief...the 2nd one both my arms went completely cold....felt like ice cubes. My PM put me on Norvasc for circulation immediately. Two weeks after that RSD spread to both feet. That was a year ago last month. I still can't believe I'm battling this monster.
My RSD started with Carpal tunnel release surgery Summer 2006, diagnosed January 2007.
I know the blocks are the first defense against RSD and once I saw the right doctors they did act fast. My surgeon dropped the ball...
Good luck Desi...I enjoy reading your posts, you're so supportive to all on here

Hi Desi,
I am so sorry you have had to go through so much pain and have felt no real relief. The SGB do only last for a period of time, some longer some shorter, but it only prolongs the inevitable in my opinion because they didn't have much of an effect for me either. So I stopped having them done. So I agree with Sandra, if it isn't helping, don't do it.

I wish you all the best and will keep you in my prayers.

Love, Peace & Blessings,
Marla

Default Hi Desi,

I wanted to say I am sorry you are having such a rough time with the blocks. I do hope today finds you better.

They don't always work for everyone. We see that by what everyone here says.

It could be the timing of when they give them, the meds they use, the way they do them or they just aren't going to work as I said.

It is hard to know what to do at times about having something when you feel they make you worse.

I try to ask God to help me make the right decisions about some things that I can't figure out. Hope he helps you with this one.

Ada

Hi Jeanne! Seems like we have a lot in common, same capal tunnal surgeries leading to RSD. Thanks for your kind reply! I am not getting another SGB again. I was told yesterday, to heve another one by one of my PMD(I have two) and The one decided on "The spinal cord Stimulator", since my pain is getting no better.(I am on so much medication! He upped my neurontin to 800 mg. of the neuronton 800 mg. -2 tablets) three times a day, steroids(Cortizone) Fenatl patch 75 ..7.5 MG, xanax, and EffexorXr. I am happy to hear that your block went well. ~Love, Desi

Marla!! What a "Beautiful name!! Thanks ever so much for your reply. My pain man. doc today, called me early this morning, told me to drive(well have some one else drive, since I was in loads of pain. Anyway, when I got there, he told me "No more SGB procedures", he wants to try the spinal cord stim. I am a nervous wreck about this, but this pain is so severe, I'll try anything! Thanks again marla!L~Love, Desii

Ada, your just a sweetie!! Thank you my good friend! Your post made so much sense, and I do thank you for that. Since day one, the blocks have not helped. the Other PMD in NewCastle, PA wanted me to have more and more, he mixed great cocktails where I was loopey for a while, the pain subsided for all of 4-6 hrs. One did go into remission for 2 weeks and 3 days, and that was pure heaven! The others, hurt one day when they wore off.. this one lasted still(pain wise) and I had the darn block done on Thursday!!!(I have had a total of 8 SGB since I as diagnoised with this beast! Ughhhhhhhhhh!! No more SGB for this gal!.. No sir reeeeeeeeeeeee.. LOL love ya Dear Ada!~Diane
