Default Has anyone had rotater cuff and/or labrum tear surgery?

I am stopping by to see if anyone has ever had rotater cuff and labrum tear surgery? I am facing the dreaded knife on July 14th and would like to get an idea as what to expect. I talked about my rsd with my ortho and he has agreed to have a nerve block before surgery. He is aware of rsd and that is a big plus in my mind. I am scared that the rsd in my left hand will try to move in its nearest relative to my shoulder. One of the worst things about the injury to my shoulder is my ability to carve my horses. I am not able to stay at it for hours like I used too. Now I'm lucky if I can carve for 15 minutes. It has taken a toll emotionally as well.
I would like to get as much info as possible.
Have a great painfree day,
Kathy

Hey Kathy,
I too am facing the same surgery !
I have a rotator cuff tear of my left shoulder as well as some additional arthritic changes that my ortho says would require surgery to correct. He has also asked me to wait it out until I cant take the pain any longer as he is also concerned by my past history of spread that it may very well spread to my shoulder. Like you mine has deteriorated to the point that I can hardly use it anymore even for basic necessities like dressing or brushing your hair... It sounds like your in the best hands possible so Im sure you will do fine. Please keep me posted on your progress and I will do the same with you ! We will get thru this together !

Sincerely,
Kim

Default Welcome Kim!

Thank you Kim.
I will be going under the knife on Monday. I am happy my doc is aware of rsd and is taking precautions. Because he is doing all that, I am more comfortable about the surgery. I hope you do well. Please do keep in touch and I'll let you how it goes with me.
Welcome to the forum, there are great folks here.
I hope you are painfree each and everyday.
Kathy

Heart

Kathy, I'm facing surgery on the 23rd to remove hardware in my wrist. My original surgery for a badly broken wrist was in March of last year. The RSD flared up quickly, and I was diagnosed quickly. I'm having a block in conjunction with the surgery. I know I could have a flare, but both my hand therapist and ortho doctor feel that this will help release my fingers and wrist. Now my rsd is not causing much pain, but I've been there where it did. I'm nervous about the whole thing, but I need to try to get my hand better. I'll pray for you on your surgery day. Susie
