Question debbiehub has asked about experiences in having SGB's

debbiehub,

I am hoping by starting a new thread that more than I will chime in here with their experiences. I can only relate my own.

They go in thru the front of your neck. I know! I know!! I know!!! Sounds horrible huh? But really for me, I didn't experience any pain when having it done. Of course I was feeling pretty good with 2 doses of Versaid & 1 dose of Fentanyl so I wasn't feeling much in pain at that point, or if I was I just didn't care *LOL* At the beginning of the injection there was a feeling of pressure but nothing uncomfortable, maybe a hint of an ache & that was it. He was all done. And of the 12 I had total, 6 on each side (he does them in a series of 6), I only had the droopy eyelid I think about 3 times total.

And as far as having SGB's or LSB's late in the game, there is one other person who I really am not comfortable naming without her permission, but she will probably be joining us here in the near future. She didn't have an LSB until I am thinking maybe 3 to 4 years after the start of her having RSD. I believe she was receiving other types of injections but they were never nerve blocks. I am thinking more along the lines of epidurals. Anyway I digress, she has had such immense luck having LSB's. I can't remember exactly how many months but it was SEVERAL months of relief from either her first or second LSB. I was so afraid for her that she would not have any luck due to the time being so great from the onstart of RSD for her. I do remember doing the happy chair dance when she told me how great her pain relief was. I think she quit almost all of her meds & even put her cane to rest for several months.

So never give up hope. Just because someone says or some article says it won't work, you never know until you try is my motto.

Take care,
DebbyV

Hey

I've had LSB's and SGB's and sympathectomies. Personally I hate them!!! After each block I actually deterioated more (I think that's because my RSD is seriously bad with needles - just one is enough to send my RSD through the roof). SGB's are quite scary - but because I had my first one when I was 16 I am given general anesthetics (also they do passive ROM on me whilst I am out and do splint fittings/ wash my hands/ feet etc whilst I'm in op).

However, I know lots of people who have had them and had great experiences with them! just jealous that I don't!

My last LSB before I refused any more went specatacultly wrong and I'm still living with the consequences of it.... grrr (it was the dr's fault! for once.. instead of the RSD's....)

rosie xxxx
