Default Lyrica ?

Hiello everyone,
Has anyone here taken the med. Lyrica for their RSD? I haven't heard anyone mention it on here and my new Dr. started me on it a little over a week ago . Haven't noticed anything yet , but still have hope. Wondering if he is just experimenting on me.
Thanks
This site really helps me with info that I am not sure about.

I did...it's similar to neurontin. A lot of ppl like it. It did nothing for me. A week really isnt long enough. You need at least a month.

I really like the site askapatient.com for when doc gives me new meds. Ppl tell their experience...and you get to hearside effects not listed in the pamphlet. Take a peek there.

No, your doc isnt experimenting on you! LOL!

Hugs

Hi. I tried it for a month before going back to Neurontin. While Neurontin makes me sleepy and forgetful, Lyrica gave me something more like full on amnesia. Then too, where it was chemically similar - as an SNRI - to the SSRIs like Prozac, there was a hint of speediness that seem to exacerbate my cramping.

To each their own.

Default frank is on it......

three times a day...he says it is not doing any good, but is still willing to keep up with it .........
he says it makes the pain more defined.....he can directly pinpoint where the pains are....................
but it does not relieve his pain................

Below is my experience on Lyrica. It may not affect anyone else this way. And remember, there are alot of drugs that I cannot take due to their side effects on me. Alot of you probably remember when I tried Topamax *ROFL* it is funny to me now too, but it wasn't at the time. I do know I was highly entertaining to everyone else that was on the other board at the time tho

I was titrated up to 100mgs 3 times a day when I started Lyrica last spring. It seemed to really help take the zipping, zapping & alot of the burn away. I liked what it did for me at first. Then recently it dawned on me that all I did was SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP. And gain the LBS LBS LBS. I have gained about 25lbs & I wasn't skinny to begin with. I hate how much this extra weight has made my clothes fit AARRGGHHH & I hate carrying this weight around on me. I hope I can loose it.

I was on 100mgs 3 times a day and I have become a ZOMBIE. In the morning & I wake at 6am, take meds, maybe drink a cup of coffee before going back to sleep. Then I don't wake until between 10am to noon. Then unless I take 100mgs of Provigil to help me stay awake, if I sit to read or watch TV I doze off & on. After dinner I am lucky if I make it to 8pm before I am back asleep again. So now I am on 75mgs 3 times a day. I asked the doctor on Tuesday to help wean me off of it. So that is what we are doing. I think I would rather have more pain than sleep almost 24/7.

My grandson's don't even ask to come to Grandma's anymore cause it just isn't fun up here anymore. Even my husband agreed when we talked about this last weekend. Something has to give so I am choosing to have more pain if that is what happens after going off Lyrica. But atleast I will have MY life back. I was having one grandson every other weekend before going on Lyrica last spring. I don't want them to be here & all Grandma does is sleep sleep sleep. And I miss my little guys. ALOT. I have 3 grandson's Logan 5, SIlas 4, & Romyn 11 months. I want to enjoy them like I was enjoying.

We will be titrating me off of the meds slowly so as not to have any problems pop up while going off of it. So far so good. I am still sleeping but it has only been a couple of days. And it is still a high enough dose to probably make me remain sleepy for awhile.

I think this is why I have disappeared from my computer until recently as much as I have. My friends don't even hardly email me anymore. I don't answer them back. I have let weeks go by before even checking email this last summer. I just didn't realize how much I was sleeping until the last couple of weeks.

Lyrica is going to be a good drug for alot of people. I just know now, it is not for me. I am on neurontin & will stick with it. I know that 'animal' & it's side effects. I had taken it for Fibro without much help for it, but I went back on it for RSD & it does alot of good for me.

Default Wanted It But...

Doc prescribed it but insurance co. said no way in heck. And if I wanted it I would have to pay 225.00 a month out of my own pocket. Freaks. Talk about wanting to keep you just sick enough so they can keep getting money for this and that. It is a viscious cricle with us stuck right in the middle.

We have no hope of breaking the chain. All we are in their minds are pawns. I am so sick and tired of being the insurance companies "Golden Goose"

Oh well. Chin Up!!!

I was on it very successfully for about 2 years.. (well. ok. i noticed if I didn't take it the pain was much worse... so that counts as very succesful in my books) then the drs took me off it because of my dystonia.... grrr....

good luck with it!!!

I was on Lyrica up until about 2 weeks ago. I was on 225mg daily and found it did nothing for my pain at all. But I did put on 3kg in 3 weeks! If I kept going I would have put way too much weight on, then my leg would be in more pain from carrying that weight. I know that I can't afford to put on weight like that, as I couldn't walk at all at the end of my pregnancy.
So I stopped talking it (weaned down I mean) and am no worse now without then I was on it, so I know it wasn't doing anything for me.

It seems most people either love it or hate it, there's not often an inbetween. Either it works amazingly or has no affect at all. Its definately one to try though, an important one as it can have great benefits.

I hope it works for you!

x Kate
