Hello Everyone....
Well, I had my first block last Friday....Everything seemed to go really well!! I sure didnt care for the numbing feeling I had though! Seriously, it was one of the wierdist feeling I have EVER had in my whole life! I was numb from the waist down for like 7-8 hrs... I had no pain though in the injection sight!! My foot/leg is feeling great! A little pain here and there, but nothing to really speak of to be honest... The Doc seemed very happy with how things went, so thats good! I see him next Tues for a follow-up appt and to schedule the 2nd block! Fingers crossed that the 2nd one goes as well as the 1st... He is planning on doing 3 of these, he seems very hopeful and positive that the blocks are going to help kick my RSD into remission... Question though.... Does anyone know how a Dr can really tell if a block works or not? Guess Im just curious to how they go about telling that? If anyone knows and can enlighten me Id appreciate it! Was my first day back to work today... YAY!! ![]() ![]() I hope everyone is doing well! Take care all! Always, --Heidi |

I'm sure someone will be along with a better knowledge of it than I.
But I think the blocks are a way to try to "reset" the sympathetic nervous system- turns them off for awhile and maybe they will stay off? It's been awhile since I read up on all of this -and I forgot a lot of it.

cant the drs tell because of an increase in temperature in your foot? its why you have to have a temperature probe on your toe/ finger when they block you.
I think! Glad it's helped!!! Frogga xxxxx

I believe the block is successful if the temp in your foot increases- Meaning the doc did the block in the correct area. Weather it worked in decreasing your pain is totally determined by your feeling better. I had a successful block (the temp in my foot went up) but it did nothing for my pain so overall it was unsuccessful
Hope that helps and glad it worked' |

Hey Heidi,
That's great it all went well, you must be very pleased and relieved. Yes, I think it's the temperature of the body part, plus of course whether it actually succeeded in damping the feeling, ie the pain - sounds like it's worked just fine ![]() Good for you getting back to work, yes I know that sock and shoe thing, difficult isn't it, specially when it's work and they actually care what you look like! Well done, you braved it, it worked, that's a really positive result! all the best |

I am very happy the block went well and that you are telling the difference already.
I had 5 SGB's in all and they did the trick when they were needed. I have a friend that is a nurse and everytime her RSD tries to come out in her foot she runs to get a block. She's done this for years so she can keep on working so just remember that if it does start poking it's head out very bad again. It's great that you were able to go back to work. That's a great feeling. A lot of us wish for that also. Take care and have a great day. Ada |
