Default Just fired my PMR

Today I took the step of firing my PMR after a heated disagreement. I got a lot of information regarding Ketamine infusion, HBOT, and SCS here onthe website and through my own research of medical journals. When I asked to talk about these options, he got really angry and said, "I am trying my best to help you, but I'm not omnicient." When I asked another question, he said "You are trying to put me on the defensive; I am in the top 2 % of doctors treating RSD." It proceeded to get ugly. The man also does not have a telephone number and I have had difficulty reaching him, plus when he sends me for lab work, they don't know where to send it without one. He told me he "refused to defend the call system." He told me he had been on call for 14 days straight (so if I would have tried lastt week, I would have had no problem, right? It got extremely ugly and he kept stalling and telling me that I had to ask the doctor who did my blocks these questions. I told him that my orthopedist knew I had RSD the moment she saw my leg. He said I seemed dissatisfied with his answers and I told him I wondered what the hell I was doing sitting there if he couldn't discuss the basic alternatives of treatment. It got ugly. I'm so upset now that I am shaking and have cried the whole way home. I hate doctors!

Default So Sorry

Lori Lee,
I am so sorry that you had to have that kind of treatment and confrontation with the Doc. You have every right to ask for alternatives. Try to keep an open mind about this, he may just be moving out of the way to allow a better Doc to take care of you. Giving him the "Boot" may be the best thing you could have done. Hang in there. Di
Give me a ring if you feel like talking to someone. OK?

Oh hon.....I am so sorry for your terrible experience. I think you did the right thing by standing up for yourself (he doesn't care about you as much as you do). I hope you find a better doctor who is willing to take the time to listen and respond to your suggestions/needs without being a jerk. How unprofessional of him. Do whatever you can to calm yourself down for the time being.....he's not worth getting a flare over. Monday is a new week and you can find another doctor then. Gentle hugs and support to you!!

Sorry it came down to it like that with your doc. They came be such jerks! IMO, if he was such a "top doc" in rsd treatment then he should be willing to discuss all of these things and not get all defensive. It's inexcusable to take that attitude to begin with and then to not be able to be reached by patients?! What kind of doc doesn't have a phone?!?!? *rolls eyes*

You did the right thing. You're doing the work and looking at all your options and wanting to discuss them and being proactive. We all have to do this and not be afraid to fire them or say no. After all....it's our lives and our bodies, not theirs!! People like that make me a little hot under the collar.

I wish for you a fantastic doc who will think of YOU first and willing to do anything it takes to help you.

Big Hugs,

Karen

Just wanted to let you know how sorry I am you had to go thru this with your dr. I have realized from my past experiences that its not bad enough we all have to go thru the pain and everything else with RSD - we also have to fight for the best care we can get for ourselves, which sometimes will end up with us having to make the decision to change physicians. Now don't fret over him - he's not worth making you feel sicker. Its a new year - out with the "old and incompetent" dr and in with the new open-minded, caring, and knowledgable dr who can help you!!! Best Wishes

Default So sorry to hear....

lori lee,

I am so sorry to hear that happened to you. Try and keep positive and forget that doctor, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. If I can help let me know....
