Default Cleveland Clinic/PM doctors in WNY

Hello! I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there, I am trying to hang in there but these past few weeks have been brutal. My PM has perscribed me two breakthrough pain meds that needed prior authorization and I had to call the office today and ask for something else and all I got was darvocet, which I suppose is better than nothing which is what I had. So getting to my post I have been looking for a PM doctor in Buffalo, Rochester, or even Erie PA, and havent had much luck because its all so overwhelming and I don't know who is good. If anyone knows of any good PM docs in these areas could you please let me know. I also have plans of making an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic with an rsd specialist there. Has anyone gone to CC for RSD and if so what was your experience and who did you see? Any input I would really appreciate. Thanks Jennifer!

Hi Jennifer,
Sorry you are having such a time finding a good PM Doc. I've read really good comments about Cleveland Clinic and RSD Docs there on this forum. Just in the past month or so. I hope someone responds with a name or two. It's late or I'd look tonight back on some of the last month's threads. Tomorrow should have some time. Hope you rest well tonight and I'll get back with you tomorrow if I can find some names, I live in Arizona 12 year RSDer full body. Your right, Darvocet isn't going to do much. Take care, Loretta

Hi Jennifer,

My daughter went to the Cleveland Clinic for Pain Rehabilitation, for RSD she is 15 years old. I don't know how old you are, I believe the RSD doc is Stanton Hicks? If you are pediatric under 21, you may be able to go into the three week hospital program. It was a wonderful program for my daughter. I watched many kids walk out of that clinic who did not walk in. Cleveland Clinic is one the best hospitals in the US. I don't know who you will see, but what will it hurt to see someone at Cleveland Clinic? Good luck to you.

Hello and sorry to hear about you having RSD

I been there but before anyone knew I had RSD, and they also wanted me to try there three week hospital program, for pain and PT
but before leaving, they cheek with my Ins Co (auto) and they said no
so I never got to go back there, but it was a very nice a caring place to be,
I seen a pain Dr, and I can not think of his name, and a nero dr,
but all very nice and I am sure, that they would of found that I had RSD if I had gotten to go in to there three week hospital program
there is no dough to that,
So I wish you the very best of luck there, I do hear all good things about CC

Peace

Kelly

Default Clev Clinic

I don't have a lot of time, as I am almost ready for work... so I am copying and pasting from another thread where I posted this reply. For clarity, Gates Mills is a suburb of Cleveland. After seeing Stanton-Hicks... my half sister committed suicide, so the only details I have about the visit are from her husband.
______________
The best doctor (most knowledgeable) I have seen for RSD was Teresa Dews, part of Cleveland Clinic. She runs the Pain Managment dept. at Hillside Hospital in Gates Mills. She has worked with Dr. Stanton-Hicks, and still part of that pain management group. Stanton-Hicks treated my sister, and didn't give her much hope, and I did not get the impression he was very easy to talk to, so when I got RSD, I went to Hicks. A friend who lives in Gates Mills was engaged to a physician, who knew Dews, and said she had a great reputation... so I went to her. Also, it would have been months to get into Stanton-Hicks and Dews office had me in within 2 weeks. I was very impressed. I think Dr. Dews would be an excellent place to start. Tell the nurse when you call it's an RSD appointment and they will work you right in.

Unfortunately, my insurance no longer covers Dr. Dews, they would if she was at the main clinic. But now that she runs this satellite office, they won't. Every couple years, I go and pay myself, and she writes a protocol for my family doctor to follow. I have the greatest respect for her.
