I wrote a long letter to the House site at fox.com about how perfect RSD would be for an episode. Went into the whole benefit of the fact that it's little known even in the medical community, needs close physical exam to diagnose and that many go undiagnosed for long periods, etc. It was good to write from a nursing perspective and also stressed that with a prime character with chronic pain issues; uh, hello! I will let everyone know if I hear anything back.

Lori Lee......thanks on behalf of us ALL for taking the initiative to do this. I look forward to hearing something back as to whether they plan to air anything on the topic. Does anyone happen to know when their new schedule begins shooting??? Are they in the middle of reruns??? Anyway, thanks again!! Have a great day!! |

RSD has been mentioned more than once. The ketamine was used on Hugh behind his back. He had some hallucinations & memory loss from the Ketamine & finally realized what had been done. He was PO'ed. He had been shot by someone & had to undergo ER surgery. The lady who runs the hospital & his oncology doctor friend decided to have him infused with Ketamine. He didn't want Ketamine done for the side effects it could cause. RSD came back with a vengence. He had a short remission from RSD. Re-runs play on TNT late afternoon/early evenings on the west coast so would be earlier for everyone back east from me.

No, you're right Andrea -- RSD has never explicitly been mentioned but all the symptoms are there. When Cuddy, Wilson and his ex-girlfriend (what's her name???) give him Ketamine, he breaks up with what's-her-face for it. Then when he's shot, he's well for awhile before he gets mad at them. The only thing that's different about House is that he's had a major section of his muscle removed due to gangrene??? or some other wicked bad infection.
I can't wait to here what the producers have to say -- I think RSD is the worse, most insidious disease there ever was or will be. Word Up! |

i have written to the show asking them to 'please' not show house as an addict....he proves that he needs and uses his pain meds for the ability to do his job, and to just plain function.......
i hated the whole story line with the cop, jail, withdrawl etc.....altho i did like the fact that he left the cop there in the room with the thermometer shoved up his ***...... the words rsd/crps have never been used ...i also asked them if this is what he has to please mention it ...he has just said he has a muscle infarction.....nothing else....... also, notice he uses the cane on the wrong side? his right side is the bad side, yet he uses the cane on that side too.....

To those of you who have never seen the show -- there are currently new episodes on Fox on Monday nights, 8:00 Eastern. Reruns are plentiful on USA Network if you get cable or satellite. Once you pick up on the characters' personalities and inter-actions, it can be very compelling. This show is one of the first I recall that demonstrates that you can be in severe pain and not have outward signs. Mike Last edited by bassman; 02-02-2009 at 10:32 AM. Reason: Spelling |

I have watched every darn episode of House I think a couple of times & I think in one show it was referred to as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. In one episode they actually did talk about it, because I hollered for my husband to get his butt in here & see this. And I don't do that to him when he is watching one of 'his shows' lightly *LOL* He hates to be interruped at that time unless it is a commercial. Sorry about using RSD but I always use RSD when talking about it myself. CRPS makes it sound like it is only pain that is in a specific region instead of perhaps all over or not in more than one region of the body. To me it also sounds like it is a fly-by-night (all in our heads) name & a type of syndrome instead of an actual disease process etc. that we go thru. And that actually offends me. How about anyone else?? That was actually one of the stupidest name changes ever & if you notice not alot of people use CRPS when talking about it. Not even my PM Doc does.
