RSD cannot be dx just by looking at it. everyone of us has a different degree of severity with symptoms, and as far as how limbs look... that too is different for all of us. some may have severe discoloration, swelling, disfiguring... while others may show none of them.

what other symptoms does she have?

Hi Liz, Maybe, it is RSD. You need to take mom, if you have not already done so, to someone in your area that can properly work this up. While the pictures are very alarming, depending upon your mom's history and other physical exam and lab findings, it may be CRPS or maybe some other systemic illness.

Either way, both of you guys are of course welcome here! Everyone on this list is here for the same reason; because we all have a persistant health issue for which we can all help each other, if not medically, then mentally! Keep in touch and let us know how mom is doing.

Hi Liz,

I agree with what the others have said, you can't diagnose RSD just by looking at pictures. Everyone of us are different as Andrea said and no two people with RSD are the same which makes it extremely difficult to get an accurate diagnosis.

I was told that my RSD was "textbook" and that I have all of the symptoms which my Doctor said was VERY uncommon.

What other symptoms does your mum have??? Did the symptoms start after an injury or surgery?? RSD CAN develop on it's own although it usually occurs after surgery or an injury etc. Has your mum seen a Pain Management Doctor before?? They are usually the best doctors that diagnose RSD and are able to provide pain medications, nerve blocks etc to try and treat it and hopefully, put it into remission!!!

I really hope that your mum doesn't have RSD and that you get some much-needed answers real soon!! Please know that we are all here for you and please keep us updated when you can!!
