Unhappy motion sickness?

Hello all!
My RSD has now gone full body (except for my head and face). I managed to go in to see my Pain Doc this morning (calling and explaining how my pulse is consistently running at 106 beats per minute, confirmed in his office, helped get me in sooner) and he informed me that I am now too "complicated" for him to treat. I begged him for more nerve blocks for the pain and he declined. He gave me some Percocet for a month. He is referring me to Stanton Hicks at The Cleveland Clinic (I think writing a letter to get me in quickly) for further treatment. I feel like I have a severe sunburn all over my body, my feet are ON FIRE, I have cold lightening shocks throughout, jabbing, tremors, etc.....I could go on and on.

Anyway, another strange symptom has popped up that I wanted to ask you all about. I have noticed that I am getting VERY motion sick in the car......for that matter, if I move my head too quickly I start feeling dizzy and sick. Does anyone else experience this??? I am getting so weary of all of these new things coming up every few days. I can't seem to adjust to one thing before something else adds to the mix. Any suggestions???

So sorry to hear this is worsening for you-I know you've been battling away.

This sounds to me like more of a medication related thing to me. You may have a higher heart rate because your blood pressure is lowered due to medications that you are taking (your body's trick to keep you from passing out). If I take Percocet, I literally faint to the floor due to the lowered blood pressure. Such a thing can also give you that nauseated/queasy feeling and vertigo.

If not that, RSD spread to your inner ear would be the only other thought, but I'd think medication. Did they check your BP at the office? Did they check it lying, sitting, and standing? That would be the best way to determine if meds are the cause.

Hope this helps,
Lori Lee

Default Hi Mominpain

Medications make me dizzy and mess with my blood pressure.

I will say though, the RSD pain messes with your blood pressure. Once you get the pain level down, the blood pressure may come down. Mine came down for a long time but now it's up again and I'm not on meds and not dealing with pain all of the time.

I have the electrical shocks a lot through my legs. My legs stay cold too.

Also as far as motion sickness, I use to get that all of the time. I sometimes thought Bill took the curves too fast just to drive me nuts and it seemed he never missed a bump in the road. Now that I have to drive myself everywhere I never miss any bumps either.

Default HBP Labile type

Hi Everyone,

before my rsd I always had good bp 110/64. After my injury it now is very high most of the time. Keeping track of it and does not matter pain or not. Every now & then it drops quickly and rises quickly. PCP says its called Labile BP. The question is High Blood pressure a symptom of RSD? Has anyone found any info on that.

Hugs to everyone hope you all have a nice day!

Hi Debbie,
I do know that the SNS does and can affect BP regulation. Anything that triggers our SNS (even if WE don't notice it) can cause fluctuations. Labile Blood pressure changes can also be caused by certain medications (I JUST read about that regarding my own......it is a negative and abnormal side effect of either the Topomax I WAS on or the Cymbalta......I cannot remember. Are you on any meds that could be exacerbating this?? Some of us are on BP meds to control it. The fun never ends, huh??? Have a good day!!!

Lightbulb

There are 4 antidepressant medications that raise blood pressure.

Cymbalta
Effexor
Savella (new)
Pristiq ( a more potent form of Effexor)

These are SNRIs SSRI combinations. The selective norepi reuptake (SNRI) functions of these 4 antidepressants, are the part that raise blood pressure in some people.

Chronic pain of any type will increase blood pressure as well.
This may be a function of increased cortisol (stress hormone) release to the pain. Or some other sympathetic loop.

Hi Mom in Pain, Sorry you are not feeling well and hope things look up for you soon. I had a terrible problem with a racing heart as well. Even at rest it was well above 100 beats per minute. When I stopped my meds back in January I noticed within a 2 week period that my heart rate went down to normal and it has stayed there since. I believe the culprit was Flexeril. As far as the motion sickness I thought I was the only one with this symptom. It started about 4 months ago. I noticed that when I bent over to take something out of the oven, I felt like I was going to fall in. Then I started getting car sick frequently. Sometimes when I'm just sitting, I have a sensation that my head is falling forward. Some days are better than others. I also am having weekly headaches which is not like me. I don't know what's at the bottom of it but I hope it resolves. I'd rather deal with the pain than the motion sickness. I find ginger snaps help me alot in the car. They also make lolloipops for pregnant women that help with the stomach upset. I've also been doing massages myself to try to keep the headaches at bay. Soaking in a warm tub with a cloth wrapped around my neck seems to help as well as Ben gay patches applied to the neck muscles. As you can see I'm trying everything I can think of. Also, being on the computer can really set off my motion sickness so on those days I stay away. Hope these suggestions can help you. Please feel better...Jeannie

Hi mominpain, I am currently only on flexeril muscle relaxent. but was off all meds for 8 weeks when I went into remission. They are talking about putting me on bp meds but my brother went totally deaf from bp meds and you all know about reactions to meds and sensativity. I am always afraid of new meds as I have multiple sensativities. When I took amitryptiline it caused a severe drop in bp and it made me pass out. pumping myself w/banannas, my diet does not incude any processed foods, never in my life added salt to anything. 2 parents 8 siblings only one bro with hb. This leads me to think it is likely SNS. Who knows

I hope you are feeling better. It is such a pleasure to have help with diferent issues of this rsd. So many people here have been helpful to me. Wish i pushed myself or new about the forums when I was first DX. But it is never to late!

Thank you again,
Debbie

Hi MomInPain,

I'm sorry to hear that your RSD has now gone full body ! Please do not give up hope - I know it is really hard at times but I promise that you will find something that will ease some of your problems - it might take a little time but you will get there eventually!!!

As far as the motion sickness, I am not too bad in the car although I do feel a bit dizzy and light headed. My Blood Pressure is affected by the RSD and if I stand up too suddenly (even if it is normal in a "normal" person), I will go REALLY dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out. This has happened to me lots of times when I have been going to get in and out of the bath tub and it has taken about 20 minutes for me to start feeling a little bit better.

Blood Pressure is affected by the RSD as i'm sure you already know. My PM Doctor explained that the more pain you are in, the more the BP either goes up or down. My BP always seems to be pretty low according to my doctor.

I would look into the pain medications that you are taking as I know some meds can cause BP issues etc. I know many medications for me made me feel really sick and dizzy and as though I was going to collapse ... I think that was one of the reasons why I chose to come off them as well as them not working at all for me.

Take care of yourself and know that I am thinking about you and DO care and understand what you are going through!! Sending many pain-free hugs your way!
