I went to PT yesterday. Paul was surprised about the size of my cut on my neck. It's 2 and 1/2 inches long. The first one wasn't but about an inch and a half. The chest area is the same way.

He did work on my neck and back though. He didn't want to overdo it until my cut got better. I go back tomorrow. He doesn't want to wait too long between times to take care of me. He says he wants to get me better and try to teach me some things to keep me that way.

I love him and Debbie though. They are very religious and he talks to me about God and things like that and I'm ok with it. He doesn't preach, we just talk about our beliefs.

I wanted to ask a question about chokeing. It might be because my neck is messed up but, do any of you choke on food and drinks. I get choked on everything. I just choked on my eggwhites this morning, yesterday it was a piece of an almond, last night it was lemonade. Pill's too. I was just wondering if any of you dealt with the chokeing.

I have issues with that, Ada.
Not always, but every once in a while, it seems a problem. Sometimes from the tos, it seems as though the "rhythm" is out of whack with getting things down, if that makes any sense?
Also, the tbi can cause nausea and dizziness, which is separate.

Overall the difficulty swallowing, or chocking, seems a bit more prevalent if I'm over stimulated, (too much caffeine), or rushing myself. I've got to give my body the time to do what it needs to do. It seems to be another one of those little irritations that you wouldn't really want to talk about to someone who doesn't understand this thing.
You might get looked at funny!

So sorry to hear that you are dealing with this right now! I hope things start getting better for you soon and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I also get the choking that you mentioned. I first noticed it happen about 6 months ago and went to see my GP about it. He said that he thought that it was from stress but he doesn't really know anything about RSD other than what we have told him so doesn't really know that it can cause muscle spasms internally etc.

The swallowing difficulties aren't there all the time thankfully but they are VERY scary!!! When I swallow, I get the food/drink stuck in the middle of my throat and they start choking to try and cough it back up.

I read somewhere that swallowing difficulties can be a part of RSD but I would definitiely speak to your PT's about it and see what they say ... especially given the fact that you have had surgery. Don't just automatically assume that everything is RSD - always get it checked out!! I know most of time it is RSD but the first time you don't get it checked, it will probably be something else that can be easily fixed lol !

I'm glad that you are happy with your PT's! It sounds as though they are really nice and doing their best to try and help you but being steady at the same time!

I almost choked a while ago, a pill just kinda got stuck in the wrong place and it took quite a bit of gagging to get it out and to get it to pass. Luckily I didn't panic. I've never had that happen before, though. And up to this point, I consider it a fluke.

I get it sometimes from the TOS sx, I have to pay attention when swallowing or sometimes my throat doesn't work quite right..

My dad has GERD with scar tissue from stomach acid and they have to go in and stretch his opening into the stomach every so often or he will have choking /swallowing problems.

I don't recall if you have bad heart burn or acid reflux problems???

Hello Ada,

I to have trouble from time to time swallowing. I notice it more often when my pain is flaired or when I am tiered. It is one of those extremely annoying side affects.

Do you have a dry mouth or a dry cough? I ask because mine is not so much choking but I get a dry cough that makes it feel often like I am but this is random not just on food. I was wondering if you have lack of saliva due to meds etc that could be contributing. My "smokers" cough as I call it though I have never smoked they have no clue.Feel better

yes i choke heck even on my own saliva sometimes.. but i have to think about swallowing sometimes and if i dont its a mess

to i think that it could just be from the surgery god lord its just been a week today dear LOL slow down

If you are still taking the Reglan:

Difficulty in swallowing is a side effect of Reglan (metoclopramide).

This should be reported to the doctor. A dose adjustment may be needed, or careful monitoring for other similar side effects.

Hi Ada, The choking is a scary feeling. I have had it many times. Just never know when it is going to happen. Just have to make a real effort to get my food down. Sometimes it's just laying down and can't seem to swallow saliva. I personally think it's the RSD and the involuntary muscles. RSD is an autonomic disorder, meaning the involvement with the involuntary organs. I always keep water by my bed and take with me when I do leave the house. Hope you are doing OK. Take care, loretta
