Just wondering. Just went to doc last friday, I didn't feel normal. Took blood pressure 220/110 Scared the crap out of me. I noticed every since we have increased cymbalta i have become more flushed and sweaty..?? Is it from increasing the cymbalta, the rsd or the hormones.. Been on blood pressure med, controlling it well for 12 yrs or so, and on hormones for 15 yrs and now i am taking new blood presssure meds and lost 11 lbs in 5 days without trying?? What do u guys thinK?

SG,
I think, it's VERY Interesting, and will keep my eyes on my Cymbalta!
(Something, besides bachelor food, is making me gain weight)...?

Others lose it.

But, You still need to talk to your doctor, it just doesn't matter what we think.
What you do, and learn from your doctor, might be a big help to a lot of us here!
I think you should tell him/her just what you wrote up above!
The last paragraph.
Let us know!?

Default Aint so bad

I told him that today and of course my general prac. doc said that now I am in my mid 4o's that hormones could play a role in my hot flashes but I don;t believe that because everything was good for 12 to 15 years/my doc is 72 or so and when I said something about rsd could make me not control my body temperature very well and he just looked at me like I was retarded/ Don't u just luv that?? and Then they have these plaques on the wall about working with the patient and their other doctors and treating them like each individual patient (is so important)should be made to felt like they give a crap about each patient and our improvement in our health and feeling better. I told him my bottom number on my blood pressure was up still since I was out of pain meds and couldn't fill them till the 14th according to my pm doc. And of course he didn't hear that comment at all. Another thing i cut back my cymbalta from 120 to 60 over a 4 or 5 day period, because my hair was falling out so bad! Never had that happen before either. Sorry just rambling again.

Hey asb here is a review I found on cymbalta,,,,,

Although the cymbalta did treat my depression to the point that I could function once again, I do have a couple of major complaints. There was not nearly enough information provided to me regarding side effects. I am someone who actually reads the pamphlet that the pharmacist gives you. No where to be found are the severe impact it can have on your weight. Over time, and I have been on it approximately 18 months. Upon further investigation on my part, I have found that cymbalta actually enters your fat cells and STAYS THERE! OVER TIME the weight creeps on and on. To top that off are the severe side effects when you are trying to ween yourself off of it. For example, I have gained 15 POUNDS in the two weeks while trying to eliminate cymbalta from my life. Not to mention the other awful side effects: brain zaps, mood swings, high blood pressure, urge to urinate one second & not making it to the bathroom the next, diahrea, joint pain, brain fog, adema, slurred speech and others. Think twice before using this drug. In the 18 months that I have been taking it I have gained 34 pounds. On a 5'1" frame thats another whole person practically. I was in a size 6-8 petite, and now I am busting out size 16's. Talk about a reason to be depressed!!! It's been 17 days and the brain zaps are almost gone and I am "starting" to feel like myself again-except for the weight gain. If I was eating carbs, sweets, etc. that would be one thing. But I follow a high protein, high vegetable diet. Really consider the consequences.

Cymbalta does raise blood pressure. But that is a pretty high
number.

Make sure they are monitoring your liver functions too.
Cymbalta can affect the liver negatively.

I have seen patients rarely get that high...when they do typically clonidine is used.
Also calcium channel blockers...and BTW calcium channel blockers have been shown to fix RSD.

Wink

Water weight loss is common in the beginning of treatment with diuretics. That should level off some.

With long term use, diuretics can deplete magnesium, and potassium. So keep that in mind.

The rest we discussed in those PMs.

Hi Sunshine Girl, Wow, that is high. RSD is an autonomic disorder, which means the organ that are involuntary are affected, like the heart, circulation, lungs, We either have high bp or low bp. or both. I'm on two double dosed bp meds. and still go high and then go low. The sympathetic nervous system, can make it go up and the parasympathetic system tries to balance it and causes it to drop, sometime way too low. So it's just trying it's been to keep us even. I passed out one morning, it went so low. Some blood pressure meds have diuretics in them, thus the quick weight loss. And yes, most of us have water retention big time, bad circulation.
I'm on Cymbalta, I didn't know it also was a weight gainer. I just went off 3200 mg. of neurotin and started loosing weight. 30 lbs. I went off two double dosed anti-depressants and went on Cymbalta 120 mg. I have another 30 lbs. to loose to get back to my lifetime regular weight of size 6.
I personally feel loosing the weight is very important for my heart health, and overall health, family history is NOT GOOD in that department and I'm 61.
I'm sure you've read about the sweating being a part of RSD, That again is part of defective autonomic disorder. I've just gone to a Dr. to check my hormone levels, which are low, and my sleeping is not good at night, the sweating is bad. So I'm going on hormones thru her perscription and a compounding pharmacist. This has been around for a long time, and I decided to try it. Oprah, Dr. Phil and other shows have featured the benefits of it. They make the hormones thru natural products called bio-identical. A woman has been working with this for 25 years here. Suzanne Summers has written a book on it. Insurance doesn't pay for it, but what else is new. I'm hoping, it will help regulate my body temp. We live in Arizona. My mother was born and raised in Arkansas.
You know Sunshine Girl, the flushing, sweating, could be all of the above, the Cymbalta, hormones, and we know it definetly is RSD. Women even in their mid to late 30's start the peri=menopausal phase. That can last 10 years. I'm real excited to try my bio-identical hormones. There are several books on it. Dr. Phils wife goes to a Dr. in Santa Monica California. That's where I was headed before I found this Dr. here. I'll report back in a month or so when I get started on them.
Really hope you get some relief. Take care, loretta hugs

My pharmacist does that kind of mixing hormones also. But I have been on the same blood pressure and same hormones for 12 yrs or longer/ I can't believe having a total hysterectomy 15 yrs ago my hormones would now freak out, I don't think so? But the RSd and the taking of Cymbalta are the 2 things that have changed in the last 6 months. and that is when things seem to change health wise for me.. I do appreciate the input.. I am still just trying to correlate things that have changed or so or meds tried or not tried.. Thanks LISaps/Working all night till 6:30 am Have a good sleep!!
