Hey all,
I just need some opinions on one of my meds. I switched from walgreens to my drug store Scott Drug because my ambien was cheaper, I do use the generic form. From walgreens I was getting a tiny round white pill and at scott's I am getting an oblong pill. the pharmacist said that it would be ok because it is the same med. I come home and looked it up in my PDR book for prescription meds and looked at the colored pictures of the ambien. I am on 10mgs. I found that the one Scott's is giving me is what is in the book but the one from walgreens is not in the book. Is this something I should be concerned about or am i just overreacting? Please help. Thank you.

Maybe stop by your Walgreens... The pharmacist should be able to help you to find out if do or don't have the right medicine.

Please be careful... this happened to my Little Brother he was given the wrong medicine when he switched pharmacies... it messed him up bad...we thought we were going to lose him.

I second what Abbie said and will add that pharmacies will sometimes have their meds supplied by different generic manufacturers and the look of the pill will differ even though they are the same mg. There is no book that will list every picture of a pill made by each generic manufacturer. It's always a good idea to make sure your scrip is written properly, with the dose you know you are taking and the right mg and then double check with the pharmacy when it's filled.

generic Ambien is called zolpidem. Is that it?

Yes The generic of ambien is zolpidem, but what kind of throws me is that one pharmacy was giving me zolpidem, but now that i transfered cuz of it being cheaper it is called zolpidem tartrate. So I don't know it that makes a difference or not. They are both the same mgs which is 10mgs, but they look really different. Like I said maybe i am just overreacting. Some days i wonder about myself...lol.

I found the answer!

Zolpidem is the generic form of Ambien, "tartrate" is just a term describing the "form" the drug comes in. Zolpidem (Ambien) comes as a tablet in tartrate form (in a salt form). The tartrate salt is used to make it water soluble and therefore easily absorbed by the body.

Thus Zolpidem and Zolpidem Tartrate are exactly the same thing and have the exact same effect on the body.

I agree call. Better safe then sorry. On a side not as one who does not have rx coverage I get mine at Costco which is usually much cheaper then other places and you don't have to be a member.

you can go to www.drugs.com then click on the pill identifier,,,type in what it ask's about the pill[shape color,,numbers,markings],,,its real easy,,,,it will tell you what it is and who made it,,and dont worry,,it also shows you a picture of the pill,,,,real cool,,,,huh? ive used that for years,,,pretty handy,,,,p.s,,,,,you can call the poison control center,,and they will do the same thing,,,,,the web site is more private,,,,good luck,,,,bobber....p.s alot of generics dont look the same or may be shaped differently,,,but i wouldnt take anything until i knew for sure,,or just run over to the nearest walmart,,and hand it to the pharmacist,,,,he can tell you
