Did anyone get numbness in your feet about 8 months into being diagnosed with rsd??

SunshineGirl: I guess the first ? that I would ask you is where did your RSD come from and what area of your body did you first notice the pain? I am asking this beacuse in my case I had surgery on my small toe. Then it went up my L leg then all over my body. YES- I did have numbess in my feet and I still do,and boy does it hurt! Also my feet curly up and cramp at times. My hands do the same things to. Sometimes it depends on the weather here in Wisconsin. The winters here are really bad for people with RSD! Also when we have extreme weather changes,like when it goes from the 80's to the 60's in one day! Also things like rain will change my RSD pain. I know that I have gotton off the subget however there are many things that can cause numbness in feet. Take Care! Breezy55

Absolutely!! Still have it-feel like some days my feey are the size of watermelons.I also have started with the same thing in my hands. I have had rsd for about 2 yrs now ,with no known cause or injury- It is in my right foot and leg.I have found that if I can walk as much as possible , it helps these symptoms. Take care.

Yes I figure if I keep active it will be better than just quitting work or something..MIne started in my right foot after fracturing it.in 2008. But I broke my left patella in 2005 by falling at work and had to have 2 surgeries.. I actually believe my rsd started in my left hip around 2006 after being down so long with my knee surgeries, but you can't tell the doctors that..

Breezy,I first broke my left patella in 2005 after falling at work and had to have 2 surgeries on that in 2005 and 2006 and after that I was having alot of hip problems on my left side that's where I think rsd started after the bad fall with my kneecap then in 2008 I twisted my right ankle and that caused my foot to fracture.. Strange but for some reasons the doc think my rsd started in my right foot the one I fractured.. but after not putting my foot in a cast just letting me use crutches and no walking boot or anything it never healed up so after 12 weeks or so they decided to cast it for it to heal and then when I got the cast off my ankle was so stove up I couldn't put my foot down but they said I should be back to walking in a couple of days.. Which was not the case at all. So they finally dx'd me in sept of 2008 with rsd of the right foot... but I think it all started a long time before That.. Just lately I have had both my feet go numb in the last 2 months and blood pressure problems and now kidney problems.. I have read where rsd affects the sympatheitc system in strange ways like starting to cause spikes in bp and kidney funtion problems etc///

I had numbess in my foot and toes for over two years now following a surgery and I can't bear anything to touch it. I have constant pain even though it is numb from the severe burning and the shooting nerve pain. I was told I would never regain feeling back and with the pain I go through now,I couldn't imagine having feeling in it.

Yes RSD is the sympathetic nervous system gone wrong. Yes, it causes high blood pressure and the para sympathetic nervous system causes it to go way down. I passed out once because of low blood pressure. I am on two blood pressure meds for high blood pressure. I bought a bp unit and take it regularly. And, yes, it can go internal. RSD is an autonomic disorder, which means it effects the involuntary organs, like kidney, bladder, heart, lungs, etc. I have full body now. Started with breast surgery. Wasn't diagnosed for 4 years, and didn't know it started with breast surgery till 5 years ago, when my Dr. that I have now, who is amazing, told me it started with the breast surgery. It's been about 14 years ago. I believe the surgeon new, buy passed me on to a rehab Dr. to oversee my p.t. for frozen shoulder. A couple days after the surgery, my surgeon's partner withdrew lime green fluid out of my arm. They had to withdraw the excess fluid about 3 times. I didn't know until this new Dr. that green means infection. Didn't even give me antibiotics. The surgeon went on vacation the day after my surgery.
I had about 100 physical therapies and 100 massage therapies. I paid for the massage. Got the use of my arm back. But a year later, my right shoulder froze up. my physical therapist said to not be surprised if I got it in the other shoulder. We moved from Oregon to Arizona after the first shoulder was working.
RSD was discovered during the Civil War. It used to be called Hand Shoulder Syndrome. It can go into remission. And mine did after all the therapies. I played tennis again, water skiied,etc. then out of the blue it was in my right shoulder. Therapy here in Arizona and also massage therapy. Got use back. Into remission for another year. While water skiing, I felt a pull in left hand. Swelling, pain, misdiagnosed, wrong medications. I knew I didn't have rheumatoid arthritis, the reports were negative, so flew back to Oregon to a sports injury Hand Dr. He diagnosed me in 1 minute, followed up with tests that also confirmed it.
I grateful I now have good Dr. I just got the chest flu and RSD has flared up. It's difficult to come to terms with this condition, counseling helps a lot, but it's the only way to be at peace. Hope the best for you. Your friend,loretta

Sunshinegirl: just wanted to get back to you to see how you are doing?In your post you said that you are in so much pain that no one can even touch you? Have you tried pt? Also I am so worried about what you said about what is going on with your kidney's? Are you going to have any more test's run on you? How do you get around with all the numbness in both of your feet? I know I am asking alot of? here however I am very upset about what is going on with you. What kind of Dr's are you seeing right now? Please get back to me. Love To You! Breezy55

Thanks for caring.. Yes I have a nephrology appt aug 3rd. YOu know how it is it takes a couple of months to get into a specialist and I have been waiting for the day to go.. Yes just in the last 2 mths I have had high blood pressure problems, blood test come back abnormal on my kidneys, and then my feet started going numb the more tired I become at work the more I hurt. I still work 12 hour shift and usually have 1 day off in betweem or maybe 2 and usually I have to rest the 2 whole days so I can go back to work the next set.. We work night and day shift and alternate, I think whenI broke my kneecap at work in 2005 that is when all of this started.. I think the rsd started in my hip from laying around so long with my knee raised above my heart for about 6 months or so.. Have had bolts and wire put in my kneecap and then in 2008 I twisted my ankle on the other foot and it fractured it so I figure something is going on with my bones.. Now my spinal column is so spasming out all the way from my hip to my kiddle of my back.. I wonde rif mine is trying to go full body.. How did u know when yours went full body??

My numbness in my feet is the worst when it is cold. I also get it in my hands. My feet were also very painful at times when it was cold. I walk a lot and I don't know whether that helped or made it worse... At night I always sleep with socks and gloves because my hands and feet get freezing cold.

They feel better now that its summer, but the numbness still comes and goes at times.

I can't say for sure what the timing was with the numbness vs. my diagnosis, I know it was after I was diagnosed, though. I just don't know how long after.

So sorry about your other issues, can you have your PCP run some blood work for you to check your kidney function since you have to wait so long for a nephlologist(sp?)? And how about a muscle relaxer or something similar for your back? That sounds awful.

Everytime something goes wrong with me I worry its the RSD spreading, so I can totally relate to your concern about your back and the spreading. Keep an open mind and make sure that you get tests run to rule other stuff out before you accept the RSD diagnosis. You don't want to miss something else that might be happening to your body that you might be able to fix.
