Confused New problem;hand shakes?

Question for the group; over the past wk I have been trying to deny it's happening but my hand will start to shake or tremor. I can ussually stop it if I hold it with my other hand and it doesn't last long. What is this?

I am scheduled for 6 nerve blocks followed by OT over the next 3 wks. I am not looking forward to them but am looking forward to the hope that maybe they will work. I am only using the compound gel on my hand that helps the burning. o other meds, I think I am getting used to the pain.

Thank you all for your help through this.

Hi Stressedout,

Sorry to hear that you are dealing with this!! I really hope that things start getting better for you soon and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Do you have RSD in your hands?? Muscle spasms are very common in RSD and that sounds a bit like what you are describing.

I have RSD in both arms and my left leg and I get very bad spasms, especially in my leg. I have 2 types of spasms, one where my toes and fingers will twitch up and down and myoclonic spasms where my leg jerks around uncontrolably.

My RSD has just recently spread to my left arm and that spasms quite a lot, especially in my shoulder area. I am dealing with a flare of the RSD in my right arm at the moment also and my wrist joins which is VERY painful!!! I usually can't stop the spasms - I have to try and 'deal' with them until they stop which can be anything from a few seconds to 30 minutes.

Are you on any muscle relaxants? If not, it might be worth talking to your doctor about them as they can be really helpful in controling spasms. I have tried all sorts of muscle relaxants and none have worked for me unfortunately but i've spoken to others who have had lots of relief from them.

I'm sorry that I can't help you that much - just know that I DO understand what you are going through and that you aren't alone!

Good Luck with the blocks! I hope everything goes OK for you and that you get some relief!! Remember to stay as calm as possible (even though it can be hard at times) so that the procedure goes smoothly!

Thinking about you and please keep us updated when you can!!

I have tremors in my feet (bad) and they will increase when I have a flare-up. My hands and fingers get shaky too, like I have nerves, very annoying. Ever since treatment started for my arms and hands, it's not half as bad as my legs. Right now the tremors in my hands happen more on off days and when I've used them too much (moderation really is key). I really do hope that these tremors aren't permanent, because it's hard to type as it is (and I love writing and typing, the motivation to get well is extremely high). It's gotten better than last year, but still... I can just manage the internet messages I post. After a while my hands and fingers will stiffen up and esp. my right upper arm will start to hurt (as if it's being held in a vice).

Default Hi stressedout,

It could be spasms as Ali said. I had the same thought when I read what you were saying. I would ask my Dr. about it.

I hope the blocks work for you. They did help me.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hand shakes are normal for me i also get a clamping down sensation where i can not release my hand... It is most likely some sort of spasm... and if not a spasm something to do with the nerve maybe..... I would maybe make an appointment with your doc and bringing it up... I know when i was having alot of problmes with it the put me on neurotin and it helped it out alot...

I think it's a crazy thing. I shake so badly at times, there is No Way I can type, or write with a pen. I can't understand my own handwriting. Ever.
I have a tbi also, but, sometimes the shaking is a little blessing, if you can believe that.
It does keep you from "freezing up". The "one position" thing is a No No for RSD!
Stay in one position too long, like sleeping for instance, and it's like trying to break out of a block of ice..

Alright, it's no kind of blessing. It's just different.

I'm sorry that you have this....

Hey Stressedout,

So far I agree with everything that has been said.

Do check with your doctor. I know sometimes we think everything going on in our bodies is related to our RSD. However, we can have other health issues that can be effectively treated.
I hope you find relief.
Take care,
Sherrie

I have rsd from my neck to my left arm

I have been concerned about twitching in my left arm/hand and left leg. I was looking up MS, because there is history of that in our family. I found out that tremors that are not there at rest but start when you try to do an activity are a possible sign of MS, but tremors at rest that stop when you try to do something can be a sign of Parkinsons

Ask your doctor......that's my plan when I get back into the pain clinic

Default more confused

But how could MS or Parkinsons come on from this injury and RSD??? The tremors are a small as just slight shaking to my whole hand flapping. Scarey. Everyday this monster confuses me more and more. I go in for blocks starting this wk.
