That part of the wrist is often a site for cysts. They are called ganglion cysts and may contain fluid around tendons as well.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganglion_cyst Also associated with tendons are neuromas (this is genetic as a rule), but those tend to have pain associated with them). And lipomas may occur around tendons too. http://www.hmc.psu.edu/healthinfo/jkl/lipoma.htm Another thing that happens in the wrist and ankles is tissue swelling which can compress the carpal tunnel, due to hypothyroidism. (Low thyroid). If your swelling causes pain or restriction of movement of your hand, I'd see a hand specialist. But most cysts of the wrist do not.

thanks! ive actually had cysts all over my wrists but they went away on their own for whatever reason. this doesnt hurt and its shaped like a tube so maybe it is just tissue swelling.

My dh had a ganglion slightly below his wrist , it finally went away after 3-4 months. We did use the far infrared heating pad on it quite often as well as magnets on occasion.
