Heart Sell Your Son For A Quarter

Several years ago, a new preacher moved to Houston , Texas .
Some weeks after he arrived, he had occasion to ride the bus from his
home to the downtown area.

When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally
given him a quarter too much change.

As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, "You'd
better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it."

Then he thought, "Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would
worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much
fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep
quiet.

When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then
he handed the quarter to the driver and said, "Here, you gave me too
much change."

The driver with a smile replied, "Aren't you the new preacher in
town? I have been thinking lately about going to worship somewhere. I
just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too much change. I'll
see you at church on Sunday".

When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed
the nearest light pole, held on, and said, "Oh God, I almost sold your
Son for a quarter."

Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is
a really almost scary example of how much people watch us as Christians
and will put us to the test!

Always be on guard and remember that you carry the name of
Christ on your shoulders when you call yourself "Christian."

Very true, and a good example.

Thumbs up

Good story Darlene

hehe - It's probably why I was such a pain in the backside with my church elders when I was a kid. They didn't like my questions and kept shooing me away. I didn't like their lies and hypocrisy, so I finally left.

The Christian label does carry with it certain responsibilities. I've never responded well to straight preaching - anyone can learn to recite poetry. I pay attention to those who practice what they preach.

I was at a concert one night, and the woman next to me asked if I had a pen she could borrow. The only pen I had was VERY expensive and a gift from my husband, one I don't typically lend out. It seemed wrong to lie and say I didn't have one, so I gave it to her.

Before the concert started we went out to the lobby and when we came back the woman was gone. She had been sitting in the wrong seat, and the ushers moved her to another section.

At first I was angry at myself for being honest, but I threw it out of my head because I wanted to enjoy the concert.

As we were leaving afterward I got a tap on my shoulder, and it was the woman returning my pen to me. Not only was it a thrill to have my pen back, it was nice to know she made the effort to get it back to me. My skin color helped her find me. I think I was the only white person in the stadium - but still

Thank you Darlene for a very remarkable story. It's not the kind of thing I'll soon forget.

I agree with Kathy. I am put off by those who talk the talk but refuse to attempt to explain the truth to anyone. I still pray for them, though.
