Default Need of Prayer

I am in need of prayer. I have been scheduled to have EMG / NCS test on Tuesday. I am very scared because I have read that the procedure is very painful (put needles in your muscles & give electric shock to test nerves) and there have been many people who have had this test which resulted in them developing nerve damage, paralysis, muscle damage, blood clots, and etc. I am in need of prayer for strength, peace, and guidance of the doctors hands - that she will perform the test with very little invasion of my body and have a clear understanding of the test results. I have been having high stress anxiety about this test (have not been able to eat for 1 week). Thank you!

Default Hey Delores :)

Oh Bless Your Heart....it's ok.....I've had one done and my peeps didn't tell me about the needle part but I made it through and I can tell you...I'm a big old baby

The electric shocks and needles are 2 separate things. I had no issues with the shocks.....most were not a big deal and the ones I could feel pretty good didn't hurt...just annoying mostly. They are brief shocks. They only stuck me 2 times with the needles.....once in my arm and once in the leg. It was uncomfortable but not like I needed to scream or anything.

And I've never heard of any type of damage coming from this test. Are you sure you're not thinking of another test ?

Anyhow....each person is different and everyone I've ever talked to about it were just sick about having to get it done. They all come back and said it was not nearly as bad as they thought it would be.

Hope this info helps and please let me know how it goes for you.

Take care,

Debi from Georgia

Please let me know how it goes for you ok ?

I was pretty upset with the dr that did mine....he was so smug about me not having an issue...turns out it was small fiber neuropathy that doesn't usually show on the test you're having. So many times I just wanted to go back to him and put my biopsy report in his face....lol

They want to test my left leg, low back, all upper extremities. I was in an auto accident 2 yrs ago that resulted in my low lumbar having 2 slightly bulged discs. My left leg has some weakness and periodic pain (depending on what I do physically). I was told that the test would take at least 2 hrs and would likely have to insert at least 25 needles if not more.

It is an EMG with NCS - EMG being the procedure of putting fine needles into the muscle to view activity on their screen. NCS being the procedure of putting flat electrodes on the skin & than placing a device that sends quick electric shocks to view on their screen the activity of my nerves. The doctor requested to perform this test is a Physiatrist who does maybe 1 or 2 of these tests a month, so the doctor is not all that experienced in performing the test.
