Default Continued healing and strength

Update on Keith..
He's continuing to gain strength and forcing himself to drink more fluids. He was showing some signs of dehydration earlier in the week. Hard to even want to drink liquids at times when there's a loss of appetite.

There is a local park that has a lot of woods and marsh area with a walking path that surrounds the water/marsh. My husband & I go there a lot to do our birdwatching. Keith asked me this afternoon if I could go there with him as he felt like doing a bit of walking and it was warmer weather.

As we entered the parking lot, we could see many birds in the trees right beside. Once we got out, discovered that they were Bluebirds that had returned from their winter migration. Keith's sounds of excitement as he looked at them through the binoculars filled my heart with joy and his too!
We got back to the marsh area only to see the bald eagle flying overhead. Following it with the camera and binoculars to it's nest in a distant tree. Keith then announced that was the first time he'd seen an eagle other than in a cage at a zoo!! Soon both parent eagles were circling overhead and both headed back to their nest.

We turned to walk back thru the woods to the parking lot, only to discover two juvenille eagles in the air further out over the trees!! Keith's joy was well worth the trip. He said that he loves nature, that it seems like a "personal connection with God". All I know is that God has truly answered the prayers of all of us with healing and holding us thru the recent chemo treatments. Hard to believe that Keith will be returning to work in only 10 days now!!!

I just had to update everyone, hadn't typed in here in a couple of days and wanted to keep you informed of how things were progressing.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the update Corky. As a bird lover myself, I can imagine the joy he felt with such a spectacular display - just for him. I'm so glad you were able to provide and share those moments with him. It made the experience that much sweeter - for both of you.

I think the rockin' robin outside my window agrees with me. It's nice to know "everyone" is joining in to support your son.

Heart Almost back to work time

Keith and I both had birthdays this week, what a time for celebrating!!! His last chemo treatment was on Mom's birthday! As he wrote on my card, a birthday that I'll remember for a long long time. He's still struggling with things not tasting good or heartburn if he eats tomato products, but I'm sure that will improve with time. The energy's returning to normal, we're all hoping that he can keep up with his desire to exercise more, once the weather becomes a bit warmer (we still have that dreaded "S" word in our forecast for this weekend!). Monday brings a follow up with the oncologist to see results of this weeks bloodwork(first in 3 wks) and his returning to work after being off for 6 wks. Words can't thank you enough for all of your thoughts, emails, prayers, phone calls....it's these things that have kept us going.

Hi Marilyn~ I almost felt like I was on your walk w/you and Keith. I am so glad that he is done w/the chemo and feeling more like his old self. I have a 29 yo DS who has been ill his whole life w/kidney disease and it doesn't matter how old they are, they will always be our babies.

From one mother to another, I know how long these journeys can feel at times. Will keep Keith in my prayers and YOU TOO.

You're a wonderful Mother..

(I would have loved to have seen the bluebirds, but kinda felt like I did in a cyber kind of way...

Default Thank you Corky

Dear Corky, thank you for keeping up this thread and sharing your son's progress with us here. How encouraging for all that he is doing so well. Give him a big hug from me, my son is older than your son but he will never be to old for a big hug.
How wonderful your walk sounds. Bluebirds bring good luck!
I think to see nature open its door ajar for you and let you see eagle babies and parents is like a personal boon, a special present. So lovely to hear about it. Continued good mending.
Hugs to yourself as well from birte

Default Reached the max out of pocket amount for yr.

Keith called today to let me know that he'd gotten his copy of the insurance payment for his first round of the chemo. The white blood cell booster shots were $3,500 each ! He had two of those.
Chemo ranges from $500-700 per day, he had 14 days.

He still hasn't added in bills for the SECOND round of chemo, but has passed the $40K mark for all of his bills from the cancer since the first dr appt.
Makes me really really stop and say prayers for ANY who might be having to go thru this without any insurance.

BTW, he's doing good, pollen is doing a number on the sinuses right now but otherwise feeling good.
