Update...I am back home after a very stressful week. Mom seems to be on an upswing. We met with her doc on Monday and then with the Hospice care people on Tuesday. Very nice lady. She explained everything to my mom, sis, brick of a brother, and me. Mom seemed very relaxed and comfortable with their services and understood that they were there to help her and make her comfortable for the remaining time she has left.

Brick of a brother doesn't get it...never will. He doesn't seem to understand what Hospice does. We gave up trying to explain it to him. It isn't his decision anyway. It's Mom's.

So, now the rest is up to God.

Thanks everyone...you've all been great. Keep it up. My sister and I know what to expect...but it doesn't make it any easier. Right now, the focus is on Mom. Not the brick.

Cheryl, It sounds as if your Mom understands that she isn't going to get any better and that the work of Hospice is to simply make their remaining days with us as comfortable as possible. They were WONDERFUL with my father, I can't say enough about them !! It seems that in every family, there's at least ONE that doesn't understand it though, or doesn't WANT to understand it. I'm sorry that the brother's being this way for you and your mom, but please remember that many of us here are praying for you and your family ((((HUGS ))))

Hey FG! I'm glad you got things figured out for now. Both of my parent's were under Hospice care. Dad for several months and Mom, just a few days, but they were just wonderful to their pt's and to us as a family.

I don't know if we could have gotten through those times w/o them. You take care of yourself too, OK?? We care about you. :grouphug:

My mom had the care of a Hospice team. Talk about angels on earth. I don't know what I would of done without them.

Take care of yourself and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
