Wow, what a wonderful way to walk in the door

This is my first post as I am new to this forum. I was away from boards for quite some time and did not know about all the changes, etc. I am glad I was informed about this board from another member.

I am glad to see an area that we can share our faith. So much of the time these days we have to walk on eggshells about religion, etc.

The story about your family and the transplant is uplifting! My hubby is a dialysis nurse and sees so much of this firsthand. It can be heart breaking. He became interested in it because my Mom was a dialysis patient before she passed away. He was still in nursing school at the time and it just seemed that this is his calling. The patients love him and so do his co workers. I have kept an interest in this area after learning so much about it while my Mom was ill.

There are so many people waiting for a transplant and I am so glad that this worked out for your family. I pray all will continue to go well for both of them. Although, they say its a lot harder for the donor than the donee (is that right) when it comes to the surgery.

I can't imagine how drained you must be with all this. Between the excitment and adrenaline you've been burning up, your body must be a wreck and in need of some quality down time so you don't get sick.

God bless you and yours. I hope to read updates on how they are doing.

P.S. Its amazing how many names I have seen already that I recognize from the other forum. More amazing is that I can remember them since I usually can't remember what I had for supper the night before.

Daisy,

We thought the rejection was a common occurence but it happened so fast. And of course, it was our Gary, so it's always major when it's your family. Just like with your DS, I bet you were a wreck with your DS as well.

One really good thing that came out of this situation is that when Gary started dialysis a year ago, he met a nurse. They started dating and are now talking marriage! How cool is that?

Gary lost a good part of his hearing before the transplant but is being fitted for a hearing aid. He also can't see well at all not so we don't know what that means yet. He is only 25 but has a great attitude and can't believe how much better he feels.

Thank you for keeping us in your prayers, you are a sweetie!

Finally, I had to just face reality and decide that we were doing everything we were supposed to be doing, and w/continuing routine labwork, the transplant team can keep close tabs on him. I am keeping this special family in my prayers. Thank you for all the updates.

gamgam,

Welcome!!! You will love this forum! I have only been on it since January but it's just a great place. No negativity like other forums. I really like this Sanctuary for Spiritual Support.

I am glad you were uplifted by my story. I bet your husband sees so many sad things being a dialysis nurse. He sounds like a good man to be able to have so much compassion to work in this field. If his patients and co workers like him, that says a lot.

The transplant process is incredible even with Gary's dad, Rod, being a donor and a match, it took almost a year for the surgery. All the testing and paperwork, it was postponed several times. At one point Rod told the case worker that if they didn't get it done, he would do it himself! We told him he better not say that anymore or he will get a bad psychological evaluation.

I feel a huge sense of relief and happiness. I have prayed and thanked God so many times for this miracle.

I am very tired because I had to have surgery to have my pacemaker replaced on March 12th. I am the type of person that gets through everything very calmly and then I have an after effect. I am very tired but very very happy.

Thank you for your kind words.
