How old is she?
Does your treatment provider have some books to suggest, or some can be in your local library? There is always the internet too.. If it is a recent dx, she could be in denial, or it may just take awhile for her to adjust..

Unfortunately, its impossible for anyone to understand it if they have not experienced it. I have had 3 psychotic episodes (drug induced) and they gave me a bit of an understanding of what schizophrenic people deal with on a daily basis. They were by far the most terrifying/unsettling experiences of my life. I believe that in schizophrenics, the perceptual filters which dumb down the senses in most people are somewhat dissolved. I also believe that schizophrenic people are capable of, to an extent, dreaming while awake. This is what allows thoughts and beliefs to manifest as perceptual representations (hallucinations). I recommend sharing this article with your daughter:
*edit* Just explain it to her that people with schizophrenia don't have the perceptual filters that filter out much of the sensory input in normal people, as well as the filters which keep the subconscious from directly interacting with normal people. Thats my belief of what schizophrenia is, based on having experienced both a schizophrenic state, and my everyday, sheltered state. Last edited by Chemar; 04-05-2013 at 08:38 AM.
