My daughter is on zyprexa and prolixin...and others. a couple of months past starting prolixin she developed tics. She is on 4mg cogentin and the doc is wanting to ABRUPTLY stop it. It's community help and she needs the 'community' but that makes you have to go with their medical people. I'm so afraid of what will happen coming off of this drug abruptly. Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Hi lynneat,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups. I don't have any experience with the Cogentin. I just saw the word "tics" in your post and that's what is familiar to me. Hopefully someone else will see your post here who does. but it seems very worrying that they would want to stop it abruptly, especially at that dose. This forum is fairly quiet mostly, but I'll post a link below to the sister site which is PsychCentral. They have a Schizophrenia Forum there where you may get faster responses. http://forums.psychcentral.com/schizophrenia-psychosis/ I'm not 100% sure, but you may have to reregister over there. I can understand you concern. Edited to add: Lynnat, I see you've posted in Movement Disorders. You may also want to post in Medications and Treatments Forum in case someone see it there and has advice. Last edited by Lara; 08-02-2014 at 05:08 PM. |

they're not really tics, they are extrapyramidal side effects from the Prolixin. Stopping abruptly is not ideal but he is worried the side effects will become irreversible.
Were her symptoms well controlled before starting Prolixin? Was the goal symptom improvement or compliance management? Has she previously tried alternative augmenting agents to Zyprexa? |

Please tell me how she is doing? it's been a few months.
I don't think anything is permanent given enough time and energy. Our body composition is brand new again every 7 years. |
