Lightbulb We Need to take Closer look at Supplements!!

Most discussion here is regarding our SCS or Pain Pumps and the pain meds we take to supplement.....

I frequent the Peripheral Neuropathy forum and MrsD's supplement suggestions and documented reports NEED a closer look by those of us who rely on pain management via pain MEDS (especially the opioids)....

More and More information regarding "Magnesium Oil" and testimonies from those taking it swear it really helps muscle pain/spasms! Several here came to mind when I latched on to these threads!!
Here's a start, MrsD's Magnesium Thread:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread1138.html
(P.S. ...for those of us who have recently been discussing 'constipation', check into possible deficiency in these important 'natural' aids!)

I encourage all of us to take a closer gander at these supplements that target NEUROPATHY pain!
Top of the list includes B12-(Methylcobalamin) empty stomach for best absorbtion
MAGNESIUM (NOT the 'oxide' form)
Vit D
Lipoic Acid
.....The list goes on and I for one am grateful I finally let this information sink in because i HAVE noticed a difference in handling pain via the supplements more so than all the hassle it is to get all these controlled opioid pain meds.!

There is a VERY good chance that our lives don't have to revolve around getting scripts and feeling like "Morphinites" (You're welcome Mark ) all the time!

So I encourage all of us (if you don't already) LOOK INTO all the info these wonderful folks at the PN forum have compiled to make it easier to piece the puzzle together in matters which may seem 'too good to be true' !
SO MUCH of this can be a siimple matter of something our bodies are lacking OR being 'depleted' via the strong pain meds!

Take a good look at the PN forum, especially the recently created 'sub' forum (PN tips and resources)

Default Thank you Rae

Well my friend, you have truly brought before those of us who are Morphinized a means to learn and, perhaps, to relieve one of the dreaded side effects, CONSTIPATION \*/ [that seems like a reasonable symbol for "can't get it out!!]!! I followed your link to the MrsD magnesium discussion. Plenty of good information either directly stated or linked.

Another home run hit for Rae!!

Interesting post Rrae!

I am doing an experiment with d-ribose, and already I am feeling much better. It is still ongoing, but at the end of the 2nd week now I have more stamina, and the aggravating pain I deal with seems less. Better sleeping too. My comments so far are here:

Default Lax

couldnt resist starting with that title. Kids just so you know the supplement magnesium will cause the same side effect as good old MOM (milk of magnesia) so start it slow and work up to a dose that helps the muscle pain without causing the "scoots"
Also check a good web site like drugs.com for interactions with any herbal supplements and any medications you take. Some of them can be very nasty! Also be sure to let your doc know about the supplements you take as well as the perscription meds so they dont throw something into the mix that will cause problems

So on point Pooh! Gotta be mindful of possible interactions and make disclosure to the Doc just to make sure something untoward or unanticipated is not in store by adding LAX to the MIX. Careful about a LAX MIX!

Most interactions are on your pharmacy pamphlet that comes with your RX. For example, magnesium would block absorption of Neurontin (often used for pain).

Calcium blocks Cipro and thyroid, tetracycline therapy, etc.

Too much folate may block anti-seizure drugs effectiveness.

And there is a whole discipline now of drugs that block nutrient effectiveness.
http://www.chiro.org/nutrition/ABSTR...orticosteroids
I have found very few doctors who know this exists!

The problem with asking is that many times, there is no answer for you...many doctors remain clueless. The pharmacy will have a data base (if it is a large chain type) to look things up for you and the net has information.

Today, the knife cuts both ways! Your drugs may be doing more harm to you than your realize!
