Default Karate

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you know someone or you yourself have tried martial arts with the SCS implant? Yes, I am probably crazy for even thinking about trying it but right now, I feel that the possiblilties of living a "normal" life are endless!! (I heard a story of a guy who went back to jumping out of airplaines after his SCS implant which by the way would be AWESOME!!) I've got a call into my dr to see what she thinks but haven't heard back yet. This probably won't happen until I finish school because yes, believe it or not, I do have limitations! I was happy to discover that the college I'm going to accepted the majority of my classes that I took back in the stone ages so I'll be graduating sooner than anticipated. HURRAY!!

I appreciate your feedback and take care, everyone!!

Smile Karate?

Wow KZL!! Karate??? For real? Not combatives, but karate? You sound like you are headed for sure back to the real world of no limits. That would be cool. So far, my surgeon has not said no to bunny hill skiing 6 months out from surgery, which would put me into January 2011. I know I would take it easy.

You have been golfing though and had no ill effect. Maybe the stretches of Karate would be helpful, although the high kicks and potential for strikes to your back could be risks I would sure run by the doc first.

You are an amazing font of improvement and one for us to look up to with all you are achieving! Good luck on the college work!

Default I appreciate the kind words!

Thanks, Mark! You know I never thought I'd ever get to this point again! Don't get me wrong, I still have my bad days but they are becoming fewer and fewer......maybe it's because I'm understanding myself more and actually listening to my body. I know when it's time to slow down; however, it doesn't mean I have to sit out entirely like I did before. It's just a matter of altering the situation a bit.

I agree with you regarding the high kicks and potential strikes to the back. For now, I would be happy to accept the stretching and stress relieving aspects of it; however, wouldn't the competitions be AWESOME!!! (As you can see that is a statement and not a question in my world!!) We shall see if that is in my future or not. Through all of this, I am also accepting (as hard as it can be at times) that I do have limitations but again, I try to find ways around those limitations by "tweeking" them to my advantage!! Hahaha!

Well, I've got class in a little bit. Have a great night!!

Default skiing

Oh, I forgot to add that I'm sure you'll be able to ski! I was hesitant about golfing but once I actually did it, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was so conditioned that if I did golf, I would be pay for it dearly the next few weeks. It's hard to get out of that mindset!

I know you will do it! You are strong! I believe we never truly know how strong we really are until we are faced with something that requires that hidden strength to show......it's your turn to shine!!!

Take care!
