Hi guys

I am wondering if anyone on here, especially the long-term members or those on long term medication, has anyone suffered from fluid retention? At the moment not even my wedding ring will fit me. I have to admit since this back problem became such a problem I've put on some weight but in the past no matter my weight my ring fingers were never a problem. Im on a lot of meds and I know this is causing the problem but there's nothing I can do about that.

Anyone any wonderful ideas of how to get rid of the fluid? I bet someone has a special drink? I do drink plenty of water so I have that one covered.

lyrica a medicine given to me
and caused several side effects
one immediate swelling
it was for my fibromyliga
i needed to stop it due to other
more dangerous effects
don't know if you started anything new
be careful with water pills
ask your doctor first
take good care

I have been on meds since my spine fusion/laminectomy a little over 5 years ago. About 3 years ago, I started retaining fluids. (I did have bladder surgery about that time; the Urologist told me the retaining of fluids is because I am getting older; (Did I get that much older in two weeks?) My swelling/edema is in my legs and feet.

Unfortunately, the only way I have been able to control this is taking the water pills daily prescribed by my Internist. But, I do not have any trouble with my ring size changing in spite of some weight gain. Have you changed meds recently??

Thanks for the replies, I am on a lot of meds including 600mg of Lyrica, do you think that would cause water retention, iam aware that it can pile on he weight and I've been affected by that.

I was hoping someone might suggest drinking a type of juice or something.

erred on a normal low
not anymore
watch salt intake
ask if you may take a water pill
couldn't hurt especially if
your pharmacy has a history
of what your taking

I was surprised to see that Ibuprofen is a culprit.

I've heard that banana's (potassium) and raisens are good foods to help retention of water. You might want to doublecheck that tho, cuz I can't swear to it.

If this is becoming alarming don't hesitate to talk to your Dr about it - at least to rule out kidney/adrenal issues. Maybe he would put you on a water pill if that would help (I know just what you want....ANOTHER pill to take!)

I hope you can get to the bottom of this soon, and that there is a simple solution.

After first major major back surgery, I was up to 1800mg Lyrica per day...... it was helping with the nerve pain, but once released back to my pain management doc the very first thing he noticed was the EDEMA in my lower legs. He and my wife sat there poking at my calves. Of course by then I could not feel a thing and have not since, but there was irrefutable evidence of fluid retention.

Titrated off of the Lyrica and up on Neurontin, then more physical therapy.....
lots of water therapy, two hours a day in a warm pool doing my routine of exercises.... The quest, reduce the edema because he was scared to death of my renal function, the liver, and such .........

Get to the doc, talk about edema, Now. Like yesterday,

Definitely the Lyrica ... that and pre gablin, Gabapentin ... they can cause bad fluid retention, which is why I told them I didn't want anything else like that. I did end up with a bad kidney infection on one of them.

many, many medication cause fluid retention. Also I think us women are more prone to this condition, also. I have edema in my left ankle but not the right...dr. says it just means my left kidney doesn't work as hard as the right one for some reason. Glad to hear you're drinking water as it's often cut back on thinking it'll help reduce retention but drinking is better. I try to drink more water but get tired of having to always know where the bathroom is

Diuretics are helpful but be careful as they can cause kidney and/or liver problems. Also, dry skin problems.

I put on 30 pounds when I was on constant dose of Lodine several years ago, so understand how it can be a bummer. My "stretchy" pants are always nearby for those times when I don't even want to think about trying to get into my jeans

Guys own those too, they just hide in denial calling them trainers, or athletics or some such...... same idea, same denial, same problem, but one cannot admit that to a woman.... true?
