Home till Tuesday

Okay here goes. My dr and I had a long talk before surgery and my medtronic rep.. The big question my dr asked was what did I want him to do if he could not place the Surescan leads. They both agreed neither has seen or done insertion thru laminectomy of leads and never the Surescan leads. He has only placed paddles with lam. He asked did I want to obort the procedure if he could not place leads or change to paddle lead. The reason was due to my employment and working in the MRI suite 2 out of 3 weeks. He said he would be willing to attempt a lower approach but he was pretty sure there would be too much Scar tissue. My answer was if if I was much younger I would have to say abort but being 62 yrs old retirement was closer and my retirement was set okay if need be. The neighbor who is a nurse and went with us even was impressed with his honesty looking at all options. We decided to try leads or switch to paddles if need be. They said he looked proud as a peacock when he came out. He was able to place the Surescan leads and he went ahead and tunneled the leads. We decided to do trial at home since I am not working and being exposed to everything with wires hanging out. I have appt with dr on Monday at 4 pm and then have the generator placed on Tuesday. He thinks he might write up a my case history and this procedure. When I got home we went for a longer walk then I have been able to do for years. Neighbors commented how straight I was walking. He now would prefer me to stay off work for the whole six weeks. Looking forward to that call to my boss.......not. Lol. He is understanding.

So happy for you that he was able to get you set up the way you wanted. I had my trial the 23rd of last month and my implant the 26th. I opted for the paddles,I have the Surescan ipg but my doc was only able to place 1 surgical paddle (16 contacts) because of the narrowing of the spinal column and scoleoses. I'm 3 weeks and a couple of days post-op and I have followed BLAST (Thanks Mark56 :winky: ) to a T. I must I have not felt this good in many years. I still have my days when I have to take some meds but nothing like I used to. I hope everything turns out great for you the healing process and programming. I've been reprogrammed 2x's so far and I have 2 programs I can run right now. Just remember BLAST please please can't emphasize that enough. Look forward to hearing how things are going for you.
Heal well

Update

Here goes.....
I could not be happier! The final surg was last Thursday. Everything went very well. They said after surgery Dr was very excited because when he put in the wires he kept working to get them parallel but they were like this....\ /, but working well. Last Thursday during the surg when they x-rayed the leads had floated to the position he tried so hard to get last them positioned at first.

I am now up to about 1 mile 2X a day. My neighbor and I we're talking Sunday and he said I looked so different. My face had lost that painful look and I looked Happy!

Finally called my Director yesterday and told him I would not be back till Dec 2. He was okay with it. Only said ohhhhkay.
He wanted me to explain what exactly I had done. His father in Utah talked to him recently and said he just could not stand the pain from his back. All he can take are over the counter meds. It was so bad he felt he wish it could just all be done with. So told him exactly what and how to get the ball going. And to have medtronic implant. I hope all goes well for his dad.

I have elderly lady in the subdivision in her late 60's early 70's who has the rods etc and because health and etc they can do nothing else. I let them look at the cd and booklets from medtronic that I was given and they so hoping they can have a trial done. They are in HMO type of Medicare group so will most likely have a few more hoops to jump thru. The HMO group is affiliated with the hospital where my surg was. Told them I am praying for her.

Well I am looking to taking a drive to Trophy Club up by Dallas to visit my niece and family after my post-op appt next week.
I also have to get up to Ohio to visit with my stepmom who was recently diagnosis with small cell lung cancer.

Well enough for now.

Vicki

I am SO thrilled for you, Vicki! LOVE these success stories and your story reminded me that back when I had mine put in I also had people tell me my countenance had changed. Chronic pain does a number on your face despite being a happy person inside (which I am!). It was really something when people told me that...never saw that one coming.

I'm gunna praise God for your story, okay? Well, even if it's not I'm going to anyway! LOL! :grouphug:
