I am scheduled for a Nervo trial in ten days. I have had multiple procedures over the last twenty years and am fused L3 to S1; L3 to L5 with a plate and L5 to S1 being Auto fused per the doc. I currently take oxycodone 10s three times a day as I can not perform my job selling cars if I take more; I just lose my wits. The pain in my lower back becomes unbearable toward the end of the day with just getting up from my chair to go home being excruciating. This is coupled with those great electric pains in the toes and testicles and with pain going down my right and left thighs. All that and the worst for me is laying down which makes sleeping really tough. Spent a lot of money on an adjustable bed to get that zero gravity position which seems to help a little, but honestly is moving pain to new areas.
I have avoided SCS after hearing that it really does not cover lower back pain which is my worst pain. My PM doc says that the Nervo Senza will cover the lower back. Is there any one that has had the Nervo implanted that receives significant relief to the lower back area? This surgery is very expensive and will significantly reduce our savings. My wife says it is worth it if it works, but I need to sell a lot of cars to cover this. I have lived eating a lot of pain for over twenty years. It's just getting to be too much. Work and my marriage are suffering. So the real question hear. More meds or Nervo? |

I have a Nevro fitted with two leads, I was specifically told by my consultant that it would only help with the nerve pain to my legs, feet and "other bits" but was unlikely to be any help with the pain in my lower back that tends to be bought on by muscle spasm, this is caused by scar tissue and damaged due to bone grafting and decompression surgery in this area. One year on I would say that my consultant was pretty spot on and it has reduce the nerve pain by about 50% but has little affect on the pain in my lower back. In my case this was a worthwhile implant as the nerve pain to my legs etc. was unbearable at times. The Nevro trial gave me a very good idea of what to expect from the full implant. Hope this helps a bit, Wingy |

I started the Nevro trial yesterday. It is helpful with the leg and foot issues, but is not helping my lower back area which my main problem. I can only feel the current up to my lower buttocks while on "A" which is the mode that you can feel the current. It was interesting during the lead placement when the doctor said the the leads where in perfect position and I felt the current in my abdomen. He was very surprised and said that "I was wired a little different" because I should not have been feeling any current in that area with this placement. He did move the leads to a position where the abdomen was no longer in play.
Has anyone out there received relief in the lower back area? Could the leads need adjustment? If not, then I assume that a Pain Pump would be a better option. |
