A few other things.
More and more states are requiring SDs in the public eye of any kind be registered with the state. The is usually done at the county level. In Calif or example each county has to accept your application and issue some sort of ID. Where I live it's a cheap brass tag with a number on it. Another county issues a very nice tag and id card with photos. NEITHER is required by federal law. The state law also says the dog has to wear some sort of identifier like a tag or vest. DO NOT give your money to any organisation that wants to charge you for registering or certifying your dog. While not illegal to register them in a private database these registries have no legal standing. Only one registry has that I know of is recogognized by the DoJ, DoT and the Airlines. The cost for registration is nothing. Private registries may charge up to $300 or more and all you 've done is line their pockets. Additionaly impersonating an SD is illegal federally and in many states with fines starting at $1000. |

More BS. I would like to know wht it is that each time I enter a post office I get challenged. I'm getting really angry over this. It is a federal agency and they should know the law. While normally I have taken the low key and polite approach to educating these people it seems to be worthless since the managers don't take the time to educate their staff. Basically the post office is discriminatory.

I've tried rereading this thread a few times and can't find anything or one to think they are sneaking in a pet as a service animal.
On the Post Office, someone told me that the ADA doesn't cover federal buildings, but the newer Rehabilitation Act does. Between the two we're all good. Florida isn't requiring anything as a State yet. I used to be for a nation-wide system, but with the latest (political) events, I'm not for anything more regarding service animals. Down on South Beach the sidewalk cafes allow any dog that's good to come. One guy with a pet duck was banned by the police though. Not sure what's up with that. He moved away after being a friend of the community there for many years, riding around on his bicycle. lol My service dog is so adorable that he's a chick magnet.... unfortunately. They fawn over him and he loses focus then expects every girl to pet him. I can get him to focus until the next high pitched? ignorant of asking to pet lady comes along. I know the well trained police dogs at Walt Disney World have to be put up for the day if they even see a rabbit, because they lose focus. So my dog does better than that! lol Been working on his flipping light switches on today. Tiring!

Another important distinction is that airlines are NOT under the ADA. They need to follow the ACAA. That is why airlines can discriminate against people with psychiatric service dogs. If you have a PSD you have to have a letter and inform the airlines 48 hours ahead of time. You don't have to do this if your disability is physical. Pure discrimination and someday I will challenge it....I can't believe the ACAA law would hold up in court.
