I have a six week old snow bengal/siamese manx kitten. He seems to be having elimination problems. His stools are solid, but he cries when trying to push them out. He drinks and eats Kitten food soaked until soft, just fine. Other than this problem, he acts and plays normally. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi cindyd, others might miss your post because it's up in the "Service & Support Animals For discussion of service and support animals." section. I nearly missed it myself.
I'm not really sure what would help because he's still a very tiny kitten at 6 weeks. Maybe he just needs a little more water. Maybe he just needs time to adjust to the semi-solid diet. He could need some type of stool softener mixed with the food. Wondering how long he's been away from his mum? good luck with him, he sounds beautiful. I'm not sure I've ever seen a snow bengal/siamese manx. I'll have to go look it up. edited to add: I found some snow bengals. They're the most beautiful looking cat. Does your cat have colour points? Would love to see a photo one day |

The mother cat licks the derrier and stomach of the kitten to stimulate
bowel movements. But I don't know at what age that stops. Here is one resource: http://www.allsands.com/pets/cats/or...ten_squ_gn.htm http://www.our-happy-cat.com/help-ki...-bathroom.html I'd make sure this kitten is getting enough water and fluids. I had a neighbor once who got a very young kitten from the Humane Society...less than 8 wks. They neuter them that early now. Was yours neutered? This kitten was bleeding from the rectum and had to be put down. (the surgery damaged it). It is a very sad story. I remember the cries, and they were really awful. I hope this resolves for your new kitten.

you may want to have him checked by your vet. just to make sure its not an obstruction too big or irregular shaped to get out.

Hi Cindy,
It's been a while. Am wondering how the kitty is doing? [I might ask a Mod to put this down in the regular forum as I think it was not noticed much here] |
