Default Help overcoming a fetish

Hi,
I am a 23 year old male , university graduate, and am normal except for one thing: I have a fetish. It all started when I was about 11 years old just entering puberty. I discovered that I was absolutely obsessed with thongs (underwear). I wouldn't wear them or anything but loved to see them on chicks especially if they were showing out of a chicks pants. I did not like any other style of underwear except for thongs and it was specific like that. I never really questioned it when I was younger but it became sort of an obsession. I was definitely not very social during this time and also in high school. I subconsciously felt weird about it but didn't know how to explain it. Like my friends and everything had it so easy because they could be turned on by normal stuff like boobs and butts but here I was that loved chicks wearing thongs. In fact I would only date girls in high school that wore thongs that's how strong the fetish was. During my 20s I became more socially aware and grown up and realised that I had a fetish this whole time. It has made me feel like a freak and a pervert. Like how can I be attracted to a piece of fabric it doesn't make any sense. I feel like an outcast , like I will be alone on my own my whole life. I don't want to objectify a woman because of the type of underwear she wears. Through high school I began to experience severe anxiety. I was put on anti depressants which drastically lowered my sex drive. On the times throughout many years where I have come off them my sex drive has come back strong and again my fetish comes back . I am on antidepressants now and actually kind of like the fact of having no sex drive after coming to this realization. I would rather have no sex drive than feel like some sort of pervert. Is there a way to get rid of a fetish. I just want to be normal

As fetishes go this one on the surface seems relatively harmless and innocuous. It's about how you are reacting and dealing with it that seems to me to be the issue. You use the words "freak and pervert". What's freakish about it really? Not to give TMI but my spouse of 40+ years and I enjoy sex that includes thongs and other flavors of erotic lingerie.

Seem to me the anxiety and depression sound like bigger issues than the thong fetish. I'd suggest seeing a therapist that works with patients with depression, most of them also can deal with sexual disorders. Sounds like you know this already but antidepressants are notorious libido killers, can cause ED and inability to ejaculate.

Best to you.

What Happened: On November 29, 2010, I was walking across the street and was hit by a light rail commuter train. Result was a severe traumatic brain injury and multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs). Total hospital stay was two months, one in ICU followed by an additional month in neuro-rehab. Upon hospital discharge, neurological testing revealed deficits in short term memory, executive functioning, and spatial recognition.

Today: Neuropsychological examination five months post-accident indicated a return to normal cognitive functioning, and I returned to work approximately 6 months after the accident. I am grateful to be alive and am looking forward to enjoying the rest of my life.

Is it normal though to have a specific interest though? I think this might have come about during puberty. As a young guy I remember one of my first crushes wearing thongs and I got really aroused. I might have connected a woman wearing thongs as more confident and sexy or something i don't know. This is the only " fetish " or strong turn on I can think of. I can still get aroused by the "normal" stuff like boobs and butts but if my fetish is involved my arousal is a lot stronger. I fear that isn't normal

As you are not harming another person, this fetish doesn't sound "freakish" or "perverted".

Other articles of female clothing have been the subject of arousal, black nylons and garter belts for example.

Don't beat yourself up, and over dramatize this.

My fetishes have been far more destructive than thongs. Count your blessings.

Hats off for coming to terms with not having a libido and actually graduating college.

You might even find a wife since you seem to be able to focus on economy.

You might prefer a woman who actually doesn't show off her thong though, as women who flash thongs in the sense that you are associating, might drag you through the dust.

It is important not to let your taste in pornography dictate your taste in women, a lesson I learned from many a woeful relationship.

Find a woman who you can turn into your ideal fantasy rather than find one who already is what you fantasize about.

You will be happier as top dog in the relationship.

@Lightrail, Spot on!

@OP,
Fetishes are not uncommon and are NOT a sign of being a freak and pervert"!

Stop judging yourself and as Lightrail suggests- get with a therapist and get

yourself off the libido killing AD drugs!

Maybe because I'm the scum of the Earth, former salt of the Earth back before porn.

I enjoy my time spent without thinking about sex. I understand how you feel guilty of having any sort of sexual "fetish."

If I had not watched so much porn my freshman year of college, I might have a bachelor's in biology by now.

Hypersexuality can be enormously destructive, disturbing, and create lack of motivation. It can also cause feelings of insignificance.

There is no middle ground between the player and the scholar. You have to decide which one you will be.

The scholar will "get none" and the player will inevitably be homeless.
