Default Flying with a CPAP

Having traveled a bit recently, I have a couple of suggestions for fellow CPAP users.

I found out recently that when you fly, you don't have to count your CPAP as an extra carry-on bag. I use the original padded bag for mine and, if they give me any problems about having 3 carry-ons, I just tell them that this one is "medical equipment."

It was actually a nice airport employee who told me I could do that.

Also, most airports want you to have the machine itself (not the hoses or mask) already out of the bag when you run it through the x-ray machine. They like to swab it for drugs (I think).

The unruly hose/tube, face mask and cord are more easily managed by placing them in a plastic garbage bag and tying it closed before placing them in with the machine.

My CPAP bag is large enough that I also put my liquids in it (in a Baggie). I have to get the CPAP out anyway, so its convenient.
