Default Clonazepam for REM sleep disorder/seizures

Hello Everyone,
I was put on 1.0 mg of clonazepam per night for controlling nocturnal frontal lobe seizures and REM sleep disorder. I have been on this dosage for 2 months now. It is actually causing more dreams, bad dreams and I feel like I am getting no sleep. It feels like it has made it worse. Do you think I should try going down to .5 clonazepam a night and see if that helps improve the dreaming/no sleep problem? Or should I try lorazepam instead? I used this a few nights before having the seizures and it helped for no dreams and getting real sleep.
I would appreciate any advise.
Thank you,
Brain

Sorry you have so much going on. I have neuralgia of the head, face, and neck and that is enough to pretty much ruin my life. I have no answer for you, only to say I have always had trouble sleeping and a doc once prescribed 1.0 mg of clonazepam per night. It worked fine for about 6 mo. and then, like everything else for sleep, quit on me. Now since I am retired, I just try not to worry about sleep however taxing being awake for hours at night is. Good luck finding something that will work.

I have severe sleep apnea and was waking up with headaches, 70% O2. I think klonopin helped me sleep but didn't cure me. I'm not sure if my memory/learning problems were from sleep apnea or klonopin- I was unable to read a single sentence

Default REM Behavior Disorder

I have have many other medical problems, but I came here trying to connect with others with RBD. I had very little help with Klonopin. I was first started with 2 m.g. and slept most of the day. When I went down to 1 m.g. I started seeing some things improve. At least, I stopped sleep walking. Several times I had fallen, and even broken a few bones, so that was a good start.

I was still screaming, hitting, kicking and biting my poor husband. He put a bar on my side of the bed as I kept jumping out in my sleep. I was also pulling off his C-pap. I had been to a couple of Neurologists and they had nothing else to offer. So my husband did a lot of searching and discovered a couple of medical sites that described that they were finding that the combination of Klonopin, and Melatonin worked very well together. So I started taking 10 m.g. of Melatonin along with the Klonopin.

Before I started it, I went to see my Neurologist. She had never even heard of that. She excused herself and went to look it up. She said that she found the studies and they seemed very promising. So I starting taking it and it has made a huge difference. I am still having the screaming and night terrors, but all of the other symptoms are gone.

I hope to "meet" others with RBD and learn more.

Hummie

Thumbs up klonapin and rem sleep disorder

Hi Brainpatch. I have REM sleep disorder, which started about 3 years ago. Have given myself concussions etc, and have a very colorful, dramatic dream diary. I had two sleep studies done, one at night and one for idiopathic hypersomia. The neurologist put me on Klonapin 0.5 one at night. This helped a lot, with the frequency of the dreams, and a little bit with the dramatic content and acting out, so I was scared to go to sleep at night, and was not waking up refreshed, even if I did not or could not remember the dream, I still felt like I had been through the washer/dryer machines. So I did a daytime sleepiness test, and found out that I have mild narcolepsy, so I was put on Provigil, 100, once a day. What a difference! No more naps during the day, full night's sleep, alert, refreshed, focussed etc during the day. The anxiety and worry about it has gone too. I work part time and have lots of family and friends both locally and living back east. Everyone has noticed the difference. Hope this helps. Ellie67

Smile struggling also

with similar issues. Don't like how drugged I feel but do like sleeping better. So don't do but every so often. Melatonin works well, also, for me, I find. The best to all!

Brain, how were you diagnosed with sleep seizure? I had sleep jerks for the past month, which have progressed into daytime tremors and muscle spasms. Also, can sleep seizures progress to daytime tremors?

Default klonopin

Hi

I have used clonazepam/klonopin on and off for yrs. I am drug sensitive so it does not take much to put me to sleep. If you have been on this for awhile, do not stop suddenly. You need to wean down. I have always used only .5 many times cutting the pill down to 1/2 even 1/4 with a pill cutter.

You can cut your 1.0 mg but prob would work my way down a bit taking a bit off the 1.0 each night. I don't know if your body would know the decrease and give you problems if half the dose. A pharmacist should be able to tell you.

If you get off of it entirely, you can take a dose periodically. Benzos are supposed to be very addictive. I know last night I wanted to dose myself to get to sleep but waited it out. When I first started taking it, I would sleep thru the night not so anymore. If you need any other info, let me know Good Luck
