Default Some questions.....

Hello- I don't know why I didn't look for this forum earlier. I'll look through the old threads but..........

2mo ago, I had a sleep study done; dr. only found 2-3 instances of apnea thru the night. They found that I only spent ~5.5% of my sleep in the deep, restful sleep we need. "Normal" is spending 16-20% of a nights sleep in that deep sleep. So, I may be sleeping, but I'm not getting rest, if that makes sense. They had me stay for a Multiple Sleep Latency Test, which I failed miserably. The Dr said that if I went into REM sleep, I would be narcoleptic. However, I didn't immediately go into REM sleep, so it was Dx'ed as Idiopathic Hypersomnolence (he said it was almost like non-REM Narcolepsy). Put me on Provigil, which helped. Any other recommendations, etc, on things that woudl or should help?
Thx,
Dabbo

Hi Dabbo,

I wish I had some ideas for you but I don't, I jsut wanted to post and let you know that someone has seen your thread even if I have no suggestions for you, I feel for you. It's so hard when you're not sleeping well to get through every day. I wish you luck in working with your doctors and finding some relief for your problems.

Dabbo,

It sounds like you have the same problems that I have. I still think that I should go in for another sleep study because my first sleep study was with antidepresents to help me sleep. That caused me to snore real bad. I don't snore now, but I can see the symptoms that you just gave in me now.

Hi Dabbo,
Im not sure either what you have. I know with my previous two sleep studies, my first one I had very little REM (I had to sleep on a flat bed which I cant with my back), and on the second I had NO REM (on an adjustable hospital bed). That was a bad night. They didnt say much about it tho. I have another sleep study coming up with a sleep specialist this time instead of a resident neurologist. I might have better answers.

I hope you can get better answers. I know even with my cpap I still fall asleep a lot during the day.

HUGS

Thank you for the replies! The doctor called it "Idiopathic (Central Nervous System) Hypersomnolence." I'm going to try and get another appt. with the sleep doctor to try and figure this thing out. Either that, or i'll get a 2nd opinon. Stupid neurological problems
