Default Spotty memory on waking

Hello,

I'm a 57 year old male, diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea 3 years ago. I tried hard to use my CPAP machine and mask, but despite trying masks of different kinds I found nothing that would allow me to get a good night's sleep. So I stopped using it.

I also have ocular migraines without headache, just to throw that into the mix. At 5 am on Friday, April 1st I awoke with my alarm, got up and immediately knew there was something wrong. My memory seemed very spotty. I could remember some things but not others. Thinking I might be having a problem waking up, I showered and got dressed. Same result.

I had no other issues, other than finding it real hard to remember. I called my girlfriend, who suggested calling 911. When I did, I was asked my address, and I couldn't remember it. When the dispatcher began to prompt me, I remembered it. The paramedics arrived, and got me to the ER. They asked me a list of 5 questions, all of which I was able to answer.

At the ER I was given a CT scan, had some blood work done, and was hooked up to a saline drip. The CT scan, and my other tests came back negative. By this time I was able to remember pretty much everything. In the absence of anything obvious, I was diagnosed with Transient Global Amnesia. I have since seen my PCP and a neurologist, both of who did not agree with this diagnosis, and pointed out that I would not have been aware that anything was wrong, and I would have probably just repeated myself.

I have since had a 20 minute EEG, am about to have a 3 day EEG with audio/video over a weekend spent at home, have had a glucose tolerance test and blood work for migraine, thyroid function and B12, and I am going for an MRI tomorrow morning. So far, it doesn't seem to fit into any particular area. All of this has led to severe anxiety on my part, because of the uncertainty of it all, and I haven't had one test result back yet.

Sorry for the long post. Does it sound like it could be sleep apnea related to you folks? I will say I have been suffering a lot of work-related stress recently too, and I know that the night before this occurred, I was particularly stressed out.

Thanks in advance
Colin
