Dead decaying mice (doesn't take long) smell awful Have had them die in the wall. After a week or so, it's gone. Propane can stink like a dead mouse as well. Could be your water too. Hope you get an answer.

We went to my SIL's one day & before we went in I said to my DH "Joan's cleaning". Turns out that ammonia smell was due to her 15 some animals.
We have had lots of trouble with our dog peepeeing on the carpet. I clean it by soaking it up then putting H2O on, rubbing lightly & bloting up the H20. But we still have a musty smell. We think it has gotten to the foam underneath too. I've used store bought carpet cleaners & baking soda & we have cleaned it a couple times. My dad had a smell out in his bushes & my bro. found a dead cat. But it still smells & he told me he once had a "Stinky Finger" mushroom growing there & it's hard to kill I read. ---- But thats outside not inside like Snoopy's. BTW..Do you know of anything else I can do about the carpet? |

Is it definitely a sulfur/rotten egg smell? vs a dead animal smell?
To me they smell different, lots of dead critters on the side of the roads out in the hills here. we had a break in our septic pipe that caused a clog and a bad back up under the house, a couple years ago, and the smell was definitely not a sulfur smell Do any neighbors has natural gas? maybe it's drifting from their place... ****************************** BTW..Do you know of anything else I can do about the carpet? for pet urine you have to get something special to neutralize the odors & chemicals usually in the cleaning aisles or pet stores.

There is nothing that smells so awful as a dead mouse. It is amazing such a small thing can smell so bad, but it does.
Dead birds too! I found this article a while back when a friend across the state's relative was overcome by hydrogen sulfide gas while doing a well repair. This article mentions the use of acid reacting to cause hydrogen sulfide gas. http://www.cdc.gov/NIOSH/FACE/stateface/mi/01mi061.html This is another interesting one: http://www.npi.gov.au/resource/hydrogen-sulfide

At least others can smell it, too. One of my MS sx is the "phantom smell" that only I can smell.
My kids get away with alot of "fluffing" due to this darned sx.

Oh yeah! Dead meecie micies smell awful! One time I used poison for mice...back in my 20s before I got half a brain. One of them died in my couch. One small mouse. And it stunk so bad!
Still...it might not hurt to have the gas people come by to check it out, and they may have some advice as well. Good luck!

We have a well, it does stink like rotten eggs. We use our running water for all cooking, etc from town (we have a sewer pipe now too!) I have cats who bring birds, chipmunks, etc. in to me. A snake once. I hate when they're still alive and hard to catch. One of them brought a big brown rodent thing in (shrew, vole, rat????????), found it dead by my computer.
