Default My little girl has H1N1!

Hi All,

My daughter just came down with H1N1.

We're really angry because, although she has underlying health issues, we couldn't get her vaccinated. They were too busy giving the shot to prisoners and wealthy line jumpers!

Her condition is deteriorating by the hour and we're waiting for the designated clinic to open so we might be able to get her a dose of Tamiflu. She is really very ill.

Please send good thoughts our way and please consider vaccinating your children if you have the chance.

Cheers

I hope her regular dr is up on the best ways to prevent complications from this.
I suppose the basics of fluids, rest, and if she is able to take some extras of vitamins... vit C, a good multiple.
I'll look for other suggestions ..

What are “emergency warning signs” that should signal anyone to seek medical care urgently?
[In children:

* Fast breathing or trouble breathing
* Bluish skin color
* Not drinking enough fluids
* Not waking up or not interacting
* Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
* Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
* Fever with a rash

In adults:

* Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
* Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
* Sudden dizziness
* Confusion
* Severe or persistent vomiting]

Thanks to you all.

The nurse practioneer was great. (We live in the sticks.) She told me it was a bad case because it had all the symptoms including the less common ones like eye pain. She gave her an injection for her upset tummy, rehydrated her with an IV, gave us Tamiflu and a puffer to keep her airway open.

She also told me, as JoMar mentioned, that her symptoms would seem to go away (two hours ago she couldn't stand up, now she's happily watching TV, yakking and munching ice chips - it's sort of eerie) - only to come back worse than ever.

That's what makes this flu do dangerous. In bad cases, your child appears to be recovering, but they can relapse and be dead in hours. That's what happened to that poor little boy in Toronto - and he had been perfectly healthy.

I was glad the nurse said we could keep her at home. We do, however, have to head to the hospital at the first sign of respiratory distress. It's going to be a long night. Luckily, hubby and I also got Tamiflu so we can stay well enough to play nurse.

Stay Well!
